Thanks for a good question.
There is a complete list of the IPTC fields in the “Field-level IPTC Identifiers and Friendly Names” section of the Settings/Media library Assistant Documentation tab. However, “ImageDescription” looks like an EXIF field name; is that right? The IPTC/EXIF mapping tables section of the MLA Documentation says:
There is no official list of standard field names, so you just have to know the names your camera and software use; field names are case-sensitive. You can find more information in the Exchangeable image file format article on Wikipedia. You can find External Links to EXIF standards and tag listings at the end of the Wikipedia article.
The External References at the end of the Wikipedia article are most helpful. In particular, the EXIF Standard version 2.3 has 190 pages of detailed information including a large number of field names (too many for a dropdown).
Tools like Adobe Bridge, Photoshop and Lightroom organize the “file information” into dialog boxes with labels that often don’t match the IPTC and EXIF fields that values are mapped to in the image file. You can use MLA’s “ALL_IPTC” and “ALL_EXIF” pseudo values to find the names and values in a particular image file.
I hope you find the above suggestions and links helpful. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have problems or further questions regarding IPTC and EXIF metadata in MLA. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
