Hello, I hope you can help with this. I wanted to use this plugin with the option to link to specific themes, and I embedded links to two different themes in my navigation menu. It works perfectly for switching the themes, but the problem is that it always redirects to the home page when switching the theme. I’m guessing this happens because I’m using a specific link. Is there any way to do this with the link option where switching the theme will keep it on the current page?

“Have you ever heard of themes that you’d previously hidden from the plugin suddenly showing up again?”

No sorry, that is not something that I’ve heard of before.

It sounds like maybe there were theme updates that had overwritten the changes.

If that’s the case that the changes to the themes that I needed to make in order for this plugin to function properly can be overwritten at any time without notice, then that’s a real problem. I’d prefer to not have to worry about whether users will suddenly have access to themes that are not meant to be used with the current site layout and don’t display everything properly, and which could potentially cause the site to become stuck that way for them if the drop down menu disappears. (This did in fact happen when playing around with the plugin before I edited the css files on the themes to disable the ones I wouldn’t want used.)

Might it be possible to incorporate a way to enable/disable themes from being public within the plugin settings themselves to prevent this sort of thing from happening?

    Thanks for your consideration.

It may be possible, will see if there is time to implement something for the next plugin update. Thanks for the idea, makes a lot of sense.

You’re welcome. Thanks for looking into it!

Just to follow up with this, the reported bug (re: “Choose a Theme” redirect) is resolved in the upcoming version of Theme Switcha.

Also added a new shortcode to make it easy to display a plain-text link anywhere, enabling users to switch to a theme and redirect the user to the same page. It looks like this:

    [theme_switcha_link theme="mytheme" text="Switch Theme"]

More information will be included in the plugin docs/readme.txt once released.

Thanks again for the feedback and ideas, @lemurianphoenix.

Thanks Jeff for the update! I think I will switch to using the link version over the dropdown. There is still the issue where if themes are updated then they get added to the dropdown menu without me being notified of it because my change to the theme to exlude them got overwritten. Using the links for the specific themes I want to share will prevent this.

@specialk Oh by the way. Do you know if it’s possible to get special characters like unicode to display in the text portion of the short code?

@lemurianphoenix, I haven’t tested but you can always give it a try and see if it works.

Seems to work. The only issue was that the symbols looked to small despite being the same font size, so I had to tweak some css to make them a bit bigger. All looks good!

That’s great news. If you want to post some special characters to test, I can do so for the next plugin update and see if there is a way to even out the styles, etc.

These were specifically the ones I was using to indicate a light theme and dark theme. ? ? So you can see here that they are the same size as the font size here, but for this purpose they’d just look better larger. It wasn’t that hard to tweak the CSS though. In this case I had them in the navigation menu so I just had to set the CSS for the specific menu items.

Alright thanks, will take a look and see if there are any tweaks that could be made to improve display of special characters.
