• Hi there

Thank you for the great work behind the latest upgrade, which I have been looking forward to.

I indeed rushed to upgrade, but firstly in spite of updating permalinks no sign of Recipe or settings on dashboard. I also noted archive page /recipe is no longer found, same to individual recipe links.

I now actually see the error on dashboard “The plugin recipepress-reloaded/recipe-press-reloaded.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.”

Just before posting this, I tried a manual download + upload … then activated the plugin.
It’s then that the process of upgrading took place including the database.

The settings links reappeared on dashboard, however …

The archive page /recipe is no longer found, in spite of saving permalinks, I also noted even if the slug is “recipe”, the link is renamed to /a-recipe, which also is not found.

If you try to preview a recipe via the editor or give a direct link, it only shows the main image & nothing about the text.

So there are a couple of things not yet OK. So basically the previous overview via /recipe [ https://bit.ly/1XjukTK ] is no longer working, /a-recipe also not, direct recipe link shows only image, example: https://bit.ly/2iUpo93. I use Firmasite theme.

Have I missed out something? It’d of course be better if possible if the link structure was not changed, but if it must be … thatz fine.

    These are the preliminary observations.

What can one do to correct this?

Thank you in advance & kind regards

There indeed seems to be a problem with migrating the taxonomy options. To sort this out will take some time, I want be able to have a deeper look into this before the weekend.

It would be great if you could provide the table wp_optionsout of your backup as these are not included in the export set you already sent me.

Thanks for your patience and the detailed reports.

Some more observation or 2 which might help …..

    • I tried out with other themes WP Twenty Thirteen, 15 & 16 … & noted that the archive page has at least teasers appearing, in addition to picture, though not thumbnail, but fullsized featured image I think.
    • the recipe page has double images (something corrected in my theme Firmasite in 0.82)
    • if it was decided to bring rpr tags “up”, that’s fine, but would be great if they are not between Cuisines & Categories, making it difficult to separate them & to also indicate they are => tags, probably with different icon(?). Just a thought. Currently holding mouse over Category & Tag icons shows “RPR”, but same icon for Cuisines, “Cuisines, instead.”
    • formatting with almost all recipes looks better, though with the specific recipe above (abdoulies recipe), where it mysteriously deviates significantly with paragraphs for instruction steps, …. even here. The others which appear rel. OK here, though ALL conform to the site-wide formatting with Firmasite theme. In similar cases in the past, the developer of Firmasite always says the problem is with the plugins css & co, because he follows the latest WP guide lines
    • A question: a while back, in order for an image not loading in a different window if clicked, you suggested using Lightbox. I was using
WP Lightbox 2 for while & all was OK, but because of unconnected issues had had it deactivated for months. When I turned it on, somehow images do not get loaded in lightbox. Could you know what I’m missing? I do not see any related errors in error log.

    Anyway, … just observations.
    Regards

Just a little update for you. I could find some things this weekend:

    • Activation on update fails as it seem I’ve change the plugin’s main file fromrecipe-press-reloaded.php to recipepress-reloaded.php around a year ago and forgot about it. That’s definitely not intended and will be changed in 0.8.3 so updating should work smootheless from 0.7.12.
While updating from 0.8.2 there will be the same problem again. However this can be easily solved by a click on <b>Activate</b>.
    • By not chosing <b>Activate</b> on error but manually reuploading the plugin you’ve triggered a function intended for first install. This function installs sample data (like taxonomies) apparantly without checking for existing data.
I’ll add an additional check in this function as the result was taxonomies like cusine and course being activated double, once from the install procedure (slug cusine) and once from the migrated data /slug rpr_cuisine). That’s also the source of all the confusion on the taxonomies and probably also for some of the display errors.

There two ways how you could procede:

    • Either roll back to v0.7.12 and the backuped data.
    • Or try deleting the double imported taxonomies in the options area. In case this doesn’t help you still can roll back to v0.7.12.

I will work on your other oberservations asap.

(Referring to your post from a week ago)
After testing with the data you provided and using your theme I could find the following:

    1. As already explained, a mistake during development on my site lead to a filename confusion and to problems on update
    2. Manually reinstalling the plugin instead of reactivating it lead to taxonomies being migrated and empty default taxonomies being installed. Hence the double taxonomies and the cuisine-confusion.
    3. The taxonomies have been missing on archive pages due to a bug. This will be fixed in 0.8.3. Description have probably been missing on your site due to a fatal error stopping rednering the excerpt. On my test system the correct description have been displayed.
    4. Cuisines should be working without the double taxonomies without problems.
    5. URLs have been double as well, rpr_cusine is the slug from your data, cuisine from the new sample data. Shouldn’t happen on corrected update.
    6. Same as above.
    7. As of release 0.8.x there are no special taxonomies any more. Befor RPR Categories and RPR Tags hev been treated as special taxonomies – a legacy of the original RecipePress. The new management interface in the backend does not make a difference here. I do see the necessity to add a legacy recipe footer to include the RPR tags next to the wordpress tags. I’ve created an issue for this and will take care asap.
Instructions formatting is also having an issue and will be fixed soon.
    8. Could not reproduce this on my testing system.
    9. On the testing system the excerpt is there on recipe pages. There might have been an error preventing the display or a relation to 3.

    Hi

I decided to wait for v0.83 and so just updated from v.0.7.12, to which I had reverted a while back.
Some observations after updating, which appeared to run smoothly:

    1. immediately noticeable was the reduction of the Recipes admin menu items on dashboard to Recipes, Add new, Ingredients & options, with Cuisine, Categories, … disappearing and do not seem to appear anywhere else, including on recipe addition page & the recipe frontend.
    2. Under advanced options, all the options where empty … I thought they shouldn’t be, since displaying recipe image & co where selected before.
    3. for some reaon the cuisine & category pages I had before are empty
    4. on the recipe archive page, a problem I had reported before turned up, with only the recipe titles shown, & mysteriously, on the first 3 pages I checked out and only one recipe showing the excerpt.
    5. formatting is much better, with the mentioned deviations for some recipes gone BUT, the ingredients list, out of line & too much to the left remains …
    6. The list for Instructions starts in the wrong place, it seems on the line with time for “Ready in” recipe time.
    7. I think the instruction images with v.0.7.12 where bigger & in original size, now resized. For some reason, probably unconnected to plugin, Light box 2 for loading images, which you recommended a while back does not work
    8. I note that the “tags” go back “down the page”, where they originally where
    9. for some reason, if display of author & time are selected on options pages, they are too clause to each other at frontend: author08/17/2016. Is it possible to use regional time format & not American?

These are the preliminary observations, showing the update from v0.7.12 to 0.83 did not take some stuff with it. If you want to have a look: https://bit.ly/2j8qiCw … though likely to revert back to 0.7.12 temporarily by tomorrow, as everything worked fine with it … by deleting 0.83 plugin, uploading 0.7.12 & replacing DB with backup made before update. I hope that’s the right way.

    What’s the best forward?

    Thank you & Regards

I’ve just tried (again) to update from 0.7.12 to 0.8.3 with the data you provided some weeks ago. On my dev system I observed the folloeing:

    1. Indeed the menu collapsed on hovering ‘Recipes’ with the mouse. After clicking all menu items are available. All data are there. So I can’t reproduce your findings
    2. That’s true and should also have been like this for 0.8.0…2. I’ll fix this for 0.8.4 but you also can fix it by manually setting the desired options.
    3. As I don’t know how you’ve created these pages I can’t check and/or reproduce. You might need to fix this manually by inserting the shortcodes again jusing the new shortcode dialog.
    4. I can’t reproduce this. Recipe archive works for me using twenty seventeen as well as Firmasite themes.
    5. Confirmed and fixed in 0.8.4
    6. Confirmed and fixed in 0.8.4. The appearance of the ‘times’ bar is heavily influenced by the firmasite theme. You may need to fine tune your css there. I can only provide generqal styles.
    7. If I remeber correctly v0.7.12 was using ist own image sizes. I’ve dropped this so 0.8.3 is using default wordpress image sizes. Adjust them in the wordpress options panel.
I’m successfully using Lightbox by Huge-IT on by personal blog.
    8. That’s a bit strange. For me this still is an open issue
    9. Added a space after author. The date is formatted according to the format set in the global wordpress options.

I can’t explain why migration did not work for you but is working well for me. Please keep on trying with the next release.
