Links in embedded doc don't work-sends to redirect

Not to presume but it looks like you have a typo in your link (“legislation”). I’m able to embed the document normally as seen in this URL:

https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=https://lcweb.loc.gov/copyright/legislation/dmca.pdf

If that’s not the issue you may have to explain further. I tried it with the typo and still didn’t get a redirect message, so I’m not sure what you’re seeing.

The links inside that document are the ones that give me the redirect problem without actually opening the page.

To get inside the website you need a password. The password is “inconstruction”.

I see the issue now, and indeed it’s happening on all links inside documents. The redirect page includes a link to take you to the original destination.

I’m sorry about this – this is an obtrusive new addition to the public viewer that must have been introduced recently. Unfortunately this is on Google’s end and I can’t control it from the plugin. I’ll update my “known issues” page with this information. Thanks for pointing it out and taking the time to explain it.

I will do some more investigation to see if it can be worked around in the Enhanced Viewer.

Joel, unlike the above I can’t reproduce what you’re seeing. Can you give me an example or any more information?

Have a look at the second example on this page which includes multiple links. Do they work for you or not?

As I posted in my second message in this thread, it appears Google has introduced this “feature” recently. It is not a bug in GDE but a new (and generally unwelcome) behavior added to Google Viewer, which GDE embeds.

Hyperlinks from the table of contents to within the pdf doc itself, do not work once uploaded to google doc embedder. The text looks like a hyperlink, but does nothing. The links work in word(2010) and with adobe viewer, but not after uploading to wordpress. The hyperlinks are to areas within the document itself. For example, the Table of contents has each of 10 sections hyperlinked to take the reader to the exact information within the 40 page manual. I’ve tried all variations of setting/options and nothing seems to work. Can anyone verify that google doc embedder supports hyperlinks to areas within the same document. Is there another plugin somewhere that will accomplish this?

texgking, you’re correct, links within the document don’t seem to work, though I never tried them before to be honest so I don’t know the normal behavior of Google Viewer in this regard.

The behavior of links in GDE is entirely inherited from Google Viewer, so any updates to GDE or WordPress are not to blame, but unannounced changes on Google’s side.

Wish I could offer more control in this area, but GDE was designed to wrap Google Viewer, and as such inherits all of its qualities and quirks.
