• Hey Folks,

I’ve been having this problem ever since upgrading to WordPress 2.5. I’m hosting this on a Windows XP box under IIS 5.1, out of my home.

Everything on my blog (https://www.uncle-andrew.net/blog/) works fine except the links that come up when you click on any of the “Add Media” buttons when writing a post. The initial screen comes up fine, and I can upload images/movies/audio to my blog from the related palettes. But when I click on the “Media Library” or “Browser Uploader” links, the request fails with an “Invalid URL” error.

Looking at the actual URLs generated by these links, I can see that the URL is messed up. The URL for the Media Library link will look like

    http:/?post_id=-1216145336&type=image&tab=library

and the link for the Browser Uploader will look like

    http:/?post_id=-1216145336&type=image&flash=0

I’ve also noticed that, when looking at the “Manage Media” page (upload.php), page 1 of the media library will show up properly, but subsequent pages will fail to load, and the link to them will show a similar structure:

    http:/?paged=2

WordPress Address and Blog Address under General Settings are set to https://www.uncle-andrew.net/blog so that would not seem to be the problem. I use a custom directory for uploads, and have tried entering the full URL of the directory in the “Full URL path to files” window or leaving it out, neither of which helped. About the only lead I found searching the forum was a possible problem with my custom theme, but changing my theme to the default one did not fix the problem. And as I said, everything else seems to be running fine.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Andrew

An update: I’m finding these truncated links in areas other than the media Gallery as well. For instance: on the Dashboard page, the “Edit” links for the Incoming Links and WordPress Development Blog also show this weird truncation, beginning with http:/? instead of https://www.uncle-andrew.net/blog/. I also see this in the “Next” link under Manage Posts, and in other places. Basically, there seems to be an instruction buried somewhere that is not handing off proper URLs, though why this is happening (software error, database error, PEBKAC error) is beyond my meager abilities to uncover.

I’m having the same problem on Windows Server.

I’m wondering if this is a rewrite issue. Do you use “pretty” permalinks, or the generic ones?

    Hey Ian,

I’m using plain ol’ vanilla permalinks. About the only unusual things about my blog structure are that I use a custom directory for uploads and a home-brewed theme. Altering these factors did not fix the problem.

Maybe we’ve uncovered a bug? You’d think that others would have experienced this and commented on it as well, but I haven’t found much chatter online….

Just a quick update: as an experiment, I have moved my blog lock, stock and barrel over to an old Mac G4 Cube running OS 10.4 (standard, not server), and all of my mangled link problems have disappeared. I’m neither smart nor experienced enough to make any major conclusions based upon this limited sample, but it would seem that there are some issues to be worked out as far as WordPress and IIS go.

    Uncle Andrew,
I have the same problem. I run my blog in a Windows 2003 server. When I upgraded to 2.6, the Add Media had this links: https:///

There are THREE slashes instead of two, thus when I click on it, it is a 404 not found

No one seem to know the solution. I was here about one month ago, but the solution of using the default theme does not work. They said it was a CSS problem. But, I believe you are right. WP has issues with IIS and unfortunately, there for us, I don’t believe they worry about IIS very much around here. ??

P.S., My solution to that problem, I rolled back my blog to 2.5 but how long I could hold off from upgrading, I don’t know.

    Please help!!!

Well, from the looks of it, the 2.6.1 release should take care of this problem. The question has been rendered academic for me, as I plan to stick with my new non-IIS setup for the foreseeable future. Too often in the support forums the answer to an IIS-related question or problem seems to be, “use Apache”. So I guess I’ll take that advice. ??

UncleAndrew, does your problem still persist?!

I have the same problem and I posted about it here more than 9 months ago and I have had no reply. The site is running on IIS (I think) and the bottom navigation links disappeared when I upgraded to 2.5.
