Links don't show up in published article

In the visual editor (in the Admin), you can use the “insert/edit link” button.
OR:
In the text tab add <a href="https://www.google.com">This is a link 2 Google </a>

Thanks, but this rather begs the question why, when I can insert the link via the inserted link button, it does not show up in the published article. I’d really like to know how I might fix that, which would, after all, make the whole process easier!

Does it happen with the default 2013 theme activated?

I don’t even know IF the default 2013 theme is activated! How do I tell and how do I activate it?
