    Hi!

We just upgraded to the newest pretty link lite version, and any new affiliate links we create pretty links of are breaking. We’ve tried links from pepperjam, cj.com, and shareasale. and the same links work outside of the pretty link, but once we pretty link them, they break. We were creating links without issue this morning, then we upgraded the plugin about an hour ago, and all affiliate links created since then break. It seems it may be something to do with links that contain characters such as ampersands and percentage signs, because it’s not breaking links without characters. We wanted to try to go back to the previous PL version to see if it was specific to the upgrade, but couldn’t find a previous version copy.

Please let us know anything we can do?

    Thank you so much!

@bobfox321 – most likely your prli_clicks table has an error. See if bluehost support can run a repair table query on it.

@cartpauj Bluehost could NOT FIX the table. It was 2.6GB long. They tried as you suggested then they tried more options. All failed. Finally, they cleared it out to zero. It did not destroy or hurt our links but only the history. Then we watched it grow and within 2 hours it grew to 5,054 rows and continues to grow rapidly. They also checked for a DOS attack and found none.

We are over 2.7 million RE-tweets DAILY and growing. Does the “prli_Clicks” table have the ability to handle unlimited clicks? What do you recommend we do to handle our growth? I know about my bluehost server limits and we are passing 52% of this limits as of today.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you for your help. We love our Pretty Links pro.

Hi bobfox321, that’s some crazy hits. I would first monitor your access logs to see if the hits on your pretty links are coming from the same IP’s or not. If not then it’s probably legitimate traffic, and a lot of it ?? — which is great.

However, that will affect the performance of your site as the clicks table grows (as you’ve seen).

So a few options I could suggest:

    1) Hire a developer to write a script that can auto-trim the hits every 24 hours or so — or when the table size has grown to some # of rows.

    2) Switch to simple click counting mode, which won’t store a hit in the clicks table. If the reports are important for you, then this will not be an ideal solution.

    3) If reporting data is important for you, then you could upgrade to Pretty Link Pro and switch your pretty links to a Meta Refresh or JavaScript redirect type which could then be integrated with Google Analytics or another analytics platform. Then you’d switch to simple click counting mode and this combination would offload your server, while allowing you to retain your hits info.

@cartpauj, thank you for your interest in helping.

@cartpauj we have been on “pretty link pro” for 18 months!

We and bluehost did an evaluation of the access logs and no ascertainable traffic coming from the same IP’s. They also found no hints from any potential DOS attacks. Bluehost said it all appears as legitimate traffic.

#1 All volunteers, no money coming in, can’t afford to hire anyone. ??

#2 How do we set the “simple click counting mode?”

#3A Where is my Meta Refresh or JavaScript redirect type?

#3B Where is “simple click counting mode?”

Option 3 sounds best but with no income does that mean we are out of luck?
Option 2 and 3B look like our best option, where is it?

We were about to triple our social media output!
Gotta put the skids on that till we fix our problem!

We don’t make any money for all this work. It is all to help America’s conservative silent majority wake up. Right now I pay what i have to from my retirement, which isn’t much ??

@bobfox321, the simple click counting mode can be enabled at Pretty Link -> Options -> Link Options -> Tracking Style. I’m not at my computer right now, so hopefully I didn’t miss anything there.

When in simple click counting mode however, you will lose the ability to do conversion and split test reporting inside Pretty Link.

Google Analytics is free (https://www.google.com/analytics/), but can be quite complicated to use. But at a minimum it wouldn’t hurt to start sending the information there so that at least you have it and can learn how to deal with that information at a later date.

I recorded a short video on how to get Google Analytics integrated with Pretty Link Pro … again it can feel complicated if you haven’t used it before so it’s your call at this point if you want to use it or not.

@cartpuj great video, thank you sir.

You have been very helpful and I thank you.

Someone asked what app we use to get all those 2.7+ million daily retweets out there. We are former tweetadder users until twitter yanked their API. We then found a product called SMQueue.com It is about to have not only repeating tweets capability but also fb, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, Pintrest, StumbleUpon as well as RSS feeds. Australian company whose servers are in Fremont, California and programmers in north America and India. It will now cause us to exceed 9 million daily retweets alone by year end.
