Links become snippets of linked page

    I would like to turn off the feature that makes links into snippets of the web page I’m linking to.

    Mostly I do technical writing and I’m just linking to the source, the extra baggage that comes with inserting a graphic image of the page of the link is distracting to me and just takes up space.

    How do I turn that off? Any help would be appreciated

    Basically, when I copy and paste a link from a web page, or drag the link to my post something happens and it doesn’t just stay a simple text line that I can then turn into a link.

    Unfortunately I don’t even know how to describe this strange feature. It would work great if I was doing social linking but I’m not.

    Strange : I just updated to WordPress 4.5 and my problem seems to have gone away. So you solved my problem simply by getting me to check my admin page!!! Thanks.

    I am using the WordPress default theme

    Plugins:
    Table of Contents Plus v. 1601
    WordPress Database Backup v. 2.3.1
