• Hi:

I’m writing articles in several parts and I’d like to show a link to the earlier articles in the first few paragraphs of the newer articles. The problem that I’m running into is that these links are now showing up as pingbacks in my comments section. Is there any way to defeat this behavior?

If you want an example, the first article with this problem is here:
    https://newswithnumbers.com/2009/06/11/the-unemployment-rate-1/
(This is the article that was referenced and you can see the pingback for it in the comments section.)

Note, if it matters… this is the second time I’ve done this cross-linking but the first time the pingback problem has occurred. I believe the only diff between the 2 times was my updating to v2.8

    Thanks

  • You can try this plugin. It worked in 2.7.1 but I haven’t tried it with 2.8. It prevents internal pingbacks.

Really! So “self pinging” is by design!?! Wow. Anyway, thanks for that plug in. I’ll give it a shot.

I’m a little surprised that I was able to write an article under 2.7 (or maybe 2.6) of wordpress with an internal link to another article and it didn’t fire up the ping back mechanism. But again, I’m happy for anything that solves my problem.

    Thanks!
