• My friend wants to use WP to create a database to link to local files on his computer. It won’t be used by others than him. So, when he does the link, he does:

    word file

The link shows up, but when you click on it, it doesn’t open. What do you have to do to get this to work?
In Firefox, I have an extention installed that allows me to drag links to open them in a new tab, and if I drag a link like this, it will open, either in Word, or a new tab, but why won’t it open by just clicking on it? How do I fix this?

  • My first thought was that using a link such as “https://127.0.0.1/folder/file” might work, but then it wouldn’t because you are asking wp to be able to go outside the root on your machine.
Can he move them into root ?
I would imagine a program more suited to his actual need may be in order ?

Well, the file: protocol certainly exists, because it is used by IE and Firefox if you use them to open local files, like text files. So, why wouldn’t they open by just clicking on them?
