I want to create a staging area within a subfolder on my site. So I’ve loaded a second wordpress install into the folder and that all works fine. Now ideally the new install would access the same database as the live site so that when we add new content we can see how that content interacts with design changes within the staging area.

I thought I could just copy my SQL setting in the wp-config.php file of he main site into my wp-config.php file on the staging install, but it clearly isn’t working.

    Any ideas?

    Thankx

  • You may find this topic very hard to get a response to as I don’t think this is a very common practice.

There are those that have setup multiple blogs that access specific tables, such as the users table but not the entire db.

I am sure this is possible but you may find it more problematic and prone to other issue rather then just doing a backup and restore of db’s for design testing.

The fact of the matter is, if you are doing a lot of changes to your blog, you are going to really want a completely stand alone test blog that can be “beat-up” and brought back without fear of killing your main.

Ya, I think you’re right. And I’ve gone ahead and done that. I just have to import the content again manually as it gets added to the main site.

    Thanks.
