Can you tell me why the link URL for LinkedIn share button is the URL for the page on which the share button sits. On the home page, it’s “new.mygoforthegreen.com”; on the blog, it’s “new.mygoforthegreen.com/blog”.

This is new to me so I may be totally confused. My understanding is that a user, who belongs to LinkedIn, would click the LI icon and go to a page where s/he could share my page. That’s the way I set it up in the plugin. This would also be the case for Facebook and Twitter users.

I sure would appreciate some help with this. I’m getting nowhere on my own!

    Many thanks,

    Linda

    Thank you for your question!

The Linkedin share button works just as you described i.e when clicking the share button, the plugin will share the page/post the user was on (otherwise it doesn’t make sense as the user found a piece of content that he wants other people to see) when he initiated the action.

Thanks so much for your fast response! ?? Impressive!

I understand what you said re. the URL and it makes perfect sense.

What I don’t understand is what should happen when I click one of the buttons. Nothing happens for me.

My understanding is FB and Twitter won’t do anything because we don’t have accounts for either. BUT shouldn’t something happen when I click LinkedIn? My business partner and I both have accounts there.

Or am I missing the point entirely? If so, apologies for being so dense!!

Clicking on the social media icons opens a tooltip (little “pop-up”) which shows the icons on which you need to click on.

For your Facebook and Twitter icons the tooltip seems cut, which is a conflict with your theme. Please ask your theme creators about it.

Sure, socialdude, I will check with them; however, a couple of clarifications before I do:

    1. Are Facebook and Twitter possibly cut because I don’t have accounts with them?

    2. Is the missing tool tip pop-up also true of LinkedIn? Or does it work differently?

Thanks again for helping me through this!

    1. No, that doesn’t have anything to do with it. The share & like icons should still show (because you don’t need to have accounts for those functionalities; it’s all about the visitor sharing the content on *their* accounts).

    2. No, for Linkedin I can see the tooltip fine (that’s why I was able to share via Linkedin, see above)

Note: The missing tooltips are indeed a conflict with your theme (and not a fault of our plugin). However, as part of this plugin https://www.ultimatelysocial.com/usm-premium/ we can fix those things too.

Okay, I’ve got it. This is very embarrassing to admit, socialdude, but I realized I was clicking in the wrong place! Re-reading your original response about what should happen, I saw that it was the pop-us that needed to be clicked, not the icon. Duh.

Sorry for my misunderstanding and for taking up your time due to my goof!

All 3 work perfectly … if they’re clicked in the right place!!

I love your plugin and apologies again for being confused.

    No issues, I’m happy it’s solved! ??
