Linkback Settings Distracting/Confusing/Causes Readers to Become Lost
-
When you click on the footnote within the text, it drops you down to the footnotes at the end of an article. However, I find that the linkback function in the actual footnote, the function that throws you back up into the body of the text, is confusing. I have long articles and it is often very difficult to easily determine where you were in the article once you return from a footnote – the script scrolls through enormous amounts of text, and it’s very difficult to pick up reading where you left off.
My suggestion is one of two things (preferably both):
1. allow users to adjust the settings for where on the screen the linkback takes the reader – will the original footnote be at the very top line of the screen? 1/4th of the way down? (I believe right now the script places the linkback roughly in the middle of the screen).2. When clicking the linkback button, highlight some portion of the line that the footnote marker appears in the body of the article – this way, my eyes will be drawn directly to where I left off reading.
Thank you for a great plug in so far. I look forward to seeing it developed
