'Link URL' help

Hello,

Am in the process of building my website using a downloaded theme and have encountered the following problem. Would appreciate any help.

I am attempting to link the image in my blog post to its original size at which it was uploaded. I was asked to use the uploaded image as a featured image and use ‘file URL’ as the Link URL. However when the post has been done and I try to open the image in a separate tab it shows only the resized image. Since I am still building the website I retained a few sample posts done by the theme developer. The problem however doesn’t seem to exist with the sample post: https://www.vivekm.com/new/2012/04/navy-plowing-ahead-on-new-coastal-ship-despite-woes/

Any suggestions how to resolve this issue?
