• Hi!

Love this widget. I use it on every one of my clients’ sites.

I have a question though. I want to be able to have the read more link direct to that specific testimonial post and not just the page of all the testimonials.

My permalink setting is to post name so right now I have this link structure.

/testimonial/harry-layman/ where harry-layman is the title of the testimonial.

The read more link however goes to /testimonial no matter which testimonial is clicked. I want the read more link on the harry layman testimonial to go to /testimonial/harry-layman and this effect to be the same for every testimonial. How can I do this?

    Hey Brian!

Thanks for your kind words! Always great to hear about people using the plugin.

If you are displaying the Excerpts of your Testimonials, the Read More link should be displayed and link to the single testimonial in question.

Occasionally, users need to click Save on the Permalinks screen if they experience a 404 error when trying to view a specific Testimonial.

In hindsight, the Read More Testimonials link that goes to the page of All Testimonials is a confusing choice of words! Anywho – if you are using the Excerpt functionality and the Read More links still aren’t working, can you let me know?

    All the best,
    Richard

I too am having a similar issue. Using the random testimonial widget, the Read More link does not appear when using excerpts.

    Hey Brian!

I’m not sure I understand which you want to achieve —

The View More link (which is what you can set, on the Options screen) is intended to go to a page that you will have to create, first — ideally one that you have a list of all of your testimonials on.

The Read More link (a WordPress feature) is displayed if you check the “Use Testimonial Excerpt” box on the Widget. This will link to the Full version of that specific testimonial (you may have to click Save on the Permalinks screen, if you get 404s here.)

If you have the “Use Testimonial Excerpt” box checked, and the Read More link doesn’t display, then most likely your testimonial is too short so WordPress isn’t auto excerpting it. To bypass this, you will have to manually insert the Read More link into the Testimonial using the standard More tag built into WordPress.

    Does that clarify things?

I think i do understand a bit better now. Now this brings me to my next issue. When i use the excerpt i get no read more link. This is why i was trying to use the view more link in the first place lol. im dumb sometimes haha

Hello, I am having the same issue brianastute, did you find a solution? I want the read more to go to the specific testimonial that the excerpt is from.

    Hey gang!

You need to use the “More” tag, inside the WordPress editor, or you need to enter data into the Excerpt field, inside the WordPress editor, for Read More links that go to individual Testimonials to appear.

Does that make sense? If you are on an old version of the plugin you should update — we have another feature in the plugin, the “View More” link (previously also labeled Read More), that is different and confusing (thus the relabeling.) I think you guys might be looking at options for that and it is creating confusion.

Please let me know if any of this helps at all?

    Best,
    Richard

Unfortunately Richard, that doesn’t work. I am using excerpts, I added more into the main content are, no link to the full testimonial on the front. I tried it in the excerpt field, no link. Once you add anything to the excerpt field, the ‘continue reading’ link disappears.

    Hey curiouslt –

Are you using the attribute use_excerpt=”1″ in the shortcode, or ticking the box of the same name on the widget?

I haven’t been able to reproduce this issue on my end, following my instructions – if there is a bug I would be happy to fix it ??

    Best,
    Richard
