• I’ve encountered an issue with the title ‘link back to parent’ text appearing inconsistently. I’m rather puzzled as I have not edited the php in any way.

Most of my image attachment pages work as they should and place the parent link back title correctly. If the image is linked to from ‘animals’ the title link back says ‘animals’. For some reason there are four or five images where this is not working, and the parent link back is to another section. An image linked to from ‘judaica’ insists the parent link back is to ‘sherlock holmes’ both on the page and in the media library. I have not been able to figure out how to change this.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, were you able to resolve it? The link is being generated dynamically and the parent page is the only one calling the image attachment page, so there shouldn’t be any crossover confusion.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

  • The “parent” link is generated based upon which post the image was published in. Rather it’s based on an association that is made when you first uploaded the image. So if you were editing a ‘sherlock holmes’ post when you uploaded the animals image, that image is “associated” with the sherlock holmes post.

If you want to parent links to work correctly, don’t upload an image when editing Post A and then publish the image in Post B. Instead, if you intend to publish an image in Post B, upload it whilst editing Post B.

Sorry – that first line should say “The “parent” link isn’t generated…”

In this case, it must be a bug of some sort, because all of the images were uploaded when no post was open. I was working only the in manage media area and uploading everything at once en masse.

It would seem I have the option either to delete my images and try again, which would be painful, or remove the link back to parent in the image attachment page title. For now I’ve removed the link, but I’d still like to resolve it without having to delete my existing work to see if I triggered a bug while uploading the first time around.
