When I make a link in an image to another of my pages, it shows as a new window with an X in the top right, in a white box. I want the link to go directly to the page, the same as if I had clicked the top menu.
I’m using the visual editor WP Editor.
Look at https://www.briancrawfordyoung.co.uk/ and click the image to see what I mean.

    How can I change it?

  • It looks like you’re using a tool for displaying images in a lightbox (that’s what the overlay is when you click an image).

Are you using a plugin that does that? Perhaps Jetpack’s carousel module? If so, deactivate whatever the tool is and check again.

If that’s not the case, perhaps the functionality is built into your theme. Temporarily switching themes and testing is a good way to see.

Hi Brian, that box is called a Lightbox, and it’s not built into WordPress core, so that functionality is being added by a plugin or your theme.

Sometimes you can tell it to not use the lightbox, but occasionally it’s forced on all images.

Look at your plugins to see if any of them provide this functionality, and check with the theme author to see if they built it in.

Thanks for the good advice. It turned out to be NextGen Gallery plugin that was the culprit. Anyway problem solved!
