I have a local copy of an html site I’ve been replacing in wordpress. Can I make it available via a url from the new site by uploading to my host via ftp?

Sure, anything on a publicly accessible server can be accessed or linked to from any other web resource. For example, you could upload the old site into a folder called way-back-machine. Then if your old home page was index.html, its new link in its new location would be something like mydomain.com/way-back-machine/ Most servers will serve index.html when no specific file is requested.

If all the internal links on the old site were relative, they will still work in their new location. But if the links were absolute, they would need to be edited to add in the new folder name.

Thanks, a lot more helpful than my other answer of ‘google it’ (which I had done). Where in my multisite folder structure would I place this? cle.bell-computing.com/oldsite/ gives page not found whether the folder is /public/wp-content/themes/childtheme/OldSite/

As does bell-computing.com/oldsite when oldsite folder is /public/OldSite/

btw I am developing a website which requires a backward reference feature – why is this topic “fixing…” rather than “developing with wordpress”? Just asking so I don’t make the same mistake again.

oops, its case sensitive OldSite works!

Sorry for not paying closer attention to your topic and a slow reply. I’m glad you figured out the case sensitivity. It’s rarely clear what is sensitive and what is not. Unless known otherwise, it’s best to assume case is significant.

Another mod moved you topic to Fixing because Developing is intended for coding related questions. “Fixing” isn’t the best description, it’s not only for fixing what’s broken, but for when you want to do something with WP that does not involve writing custom code. We appreciate you wanting to chose the correct forum from the onset. We know it’s not always clear cut. When in doubt, do your best. That’s all anyone can expect. If you choose poorly, we’ll move it, it’s not a big deal.
