• I choose ‘media file’ in the ‘link to’ hoping PRAYING that wordpress doesn’t try and ‘baby’ me by linking to the ‘scaled’ copy which is pretty obvious by the filename. So it’s fine to have a scaled copy on the post but when clicking on the image it would be nice to actually link to the original… media file instead of the scaled copy. Seems a bit redundant to me. But lo and behold, clicking on the image, we get the scaled copy as evidenced by right click > view image > -scaled.jpg

I feel like this used to work but some update or something at some point broke the ‘proper’ functionality, maybe it’s in a theme somewhere or something, It’s been a while since I delved into that but really just don’t know where to start with this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey there,

I didn’t understand it very well, sorry. You haven’t been able to put the correct media URL, that’s it?

Maybe following this tutorial can help: https://easywpguide.com/wordpress-manual/adding-your-site-content/classic-editor/adding-html-links/inserting-an-html-link/inserting-links-media-files/

No, I’m not having trouble attaching the image or having it show up on the blog.

What I want is for ‘link to media file’ to link directly to the original file that I uploaded – hence, the ‘media file.’

I’m having a problem with the ‘linking behavior’ of wordpress… I want to link directly to the media file and I’m pretty sure this is what is supposed to happen. But the link actually brings me to the “Scaled” wordpress copy for some reason. I can understand the reason for creating multiple image sizes but I wish WP did offer some better control over this ‘in house’ rather than relying on plugins.

On that front, I did try disabling all media/lightbox/gallery type plugins and it still seems like clicking on the image link brings you to the -Scaled.jpg instead of the actual media file. So frustrating. Not sure if this is a bug or what, but I feel like it did use to work and something changed. Not sure if it’s my theme or something with gutenberg but I’d love to get this resolved if at all possible.
