Link Thumb-to-image Not Working

Have recently upgraded to the current gold version of NGG v2 and am biting the bullet to get the conflicts resolved and not just bail out and rollback to v1.9.

Click on any thumbnail. Page loads and stays the same, though the target URL changes. Image does not display. The URL that is generated by the gallery software (I presume) makes no sense, either in real terms — linking to actual folders and files on the server — or virtual/logical ones.
I believe that the problem has to do with the location of files and pointers thereto, but am clueless as to what has changed. I do not use “custom” templates. To the best of my knowledge — and what displays on the WP toolbar — are the standard templates in the theme, which seem pretty simple to me. However, the theme is entirely custom and not a child theme, which I can see might be the source of the problem.
Anybody lend me a clue?
