• Is there a plugin out there that will enable me to insert line and page breaks into my regular blog postings?

Right now, no matter how many HTML codes I enter or carriage returns I force, I absolutely cannot create a line or page break. It’s absolutely maddening, because my posts look like huge blocks of text, rather than separated paragraphs.

Can someone help me with this, please?

Let me qualify that…I can’t create a line break unless I manually click the “ol” button twice after every single carriage break via the HTML editing screen.

I’d *really* prefer to be able to simply type, like I do everywhere else…including here!

Does anyone ever reply to these? lol

theres a stock answer to this. dont try to force line breaks, thats a style issue and not a formatting problem.

When you view your source do you see opening and closing paragraph tags? if so, than wordpress is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing. You just havent added the necessary CSS.

Of course it would have been nice to get to see “the necessary css”

I have this problem since week and have posted two questions without any answer.

“the necessary css” is different depending on what you want and also depending on how your theme is built, at least potentially. You want a big space? p {margin:50px;} You want no space? p {margin:0;padding:0} Of course, that will change all of the p tags on your page which will likely make a huge mess so you have to target only the post content which is where the ‘depending on how your theme is built’ part comes in.

By the way, you are probably not getting an answer because this question comes up all the time on the forums and it has been answered repeatedly.

I have not found any reasonable answer. What I want is a line break inserted when I press the “return” key. This has worked for years and suddenly stopped working. “You want a big space?” Of course not.
I want a space of one line and if I hit the return key twice of two lines. I don’t want to mess with the css. Just as simple as when I write this comment.

(As I have said in my original posts, if I introduce paragraph and line breaks in code view they just disappear when I do “save and continue editing”.)

By the way, you are probably not getting an answer because this question comes up all the time on the forums and it has been answered repeatedly.

yes, i’m looking for the same solution as eklipspringer is. yes, after searching the forums i see that this questions comes up all the time. but it has not been successfully answered repeatedly. i, like eklipspringer, can’t find a solution

I am curious because I don’t seem to have the problem using WP 2.8.6. What is your version of WP?

If you view the source of the page in the browser, what do you see in the area where you repeatedly pressed ‘Return’? If you see multiple <p> </p> entries, then it is probably indeed a css issue. If not, it is probably an editor issue.

If it turns out to be an editor issue, can you use a different editor like the Dean’s FCKEditor plugin?

If you post a link to your site, with details on where the problem shows up on the page, it might help identify the problem.
