Limit the text on homepage for each post

There seems to be one discussion topic about this already but with no real solution. I would either like to take away the posts text under each featured image on my homepage so that the viewer will have to open it to see it or I would like to at least limit it to a few words – is that possible? Any guidance greatly appreciated.
