Basically, whether you’re customizing a theme from WP repository or whether you’re creating your own theme, you can put as many widgets (or module positions in joomla-speak) as you want in header, sidebar, footer, etc. as long as you add the respective widgets in your theme’s function.php

If you just want to move the widget to header or footer, then it’s a matter of knowing HTML and CSS and/or adding more widget calls in functions.php in order to set new ones up in your theme. Different themes have different widget areas and most are initially called “sidebars” or “footer widgets”
