Help me understand the Like function. i read documentation but don’t see answers to these.

    1. Is this just a user view thing? ie, it doesn’t really have a function, just shows number of people who have clicked a button?

    2. Documentation says users must be logged in to WordPress.com to use this button but I don’t see that limitation. Why is performance different than documentation or am I missing something?

-update on 2- Just figured out that this button actually connects to Facebook? So need a unique Facebook account to “like” this page? Even more confused what the point of this button is.

    3. Can I see who liked my page? Can I get their name and email address?

    4. Just to confirm, if I move my page or move the button I lose all my previous like. Correct? Is there a way to get them back?

    Hi –

I’m confused if you’re referring to the like button on your blog or a Facebook button. Can you send a link to that documentation that’s mentioned in the first sentence of your post?

Generally speaking, likes indicate a popular post which is more favorable to Reader and your SEO.

So, the like button actually helps SEO?

The Like button allows any user logged into their WordPress.com account click on it and show that they liked your post.
Now, Facebook sharing button is independent of the Like button.

You can see who liked your page in the notification panel on WordPress.com and also by hovering over the Gravatars of the users that appear below your post. You will be able to see their profiles but not their email addresses.

I’m not sure what you mean about moving your page. The likes are connected to the page or post and will be visible as long as the option to enable them is on.
