• I installed the Simple Facebook Connect plugins which has worked pretty well except for when I tried to add the like button on my posts. I can “like” the post but what shows up on Facebook isn’t quite right. The post link is correct but the link to the website is wrong.

What might be the issue is that I am working on a student website that is run on school servers. The URL of the site is https://orgs.unt.edu/pants. The link to the website goes to https://orgs.unt.edu.

I have disabled the like button for the time being because it is a live site.

The website is correct in the application settings.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This usually happens because you have something else on the page that is messing up the query in some fashion. Like a recent comments or recent posts list, or perhaps a related posts list… Something is changing the contents of the query between the time the post is displayed and the like button is called.

I don’t have any special recent posts or comments plugins installed and there is nothing calling any recent posts or comments on the post page. I tried removing all of the sidebar widgets and it gave the same results.

I am using the Structure theme (structuretheme.com/demo/). I don’t know if that is causing any of my problems. I looked through the header page to see if it showed the wrong site anywhere but couldn’t find anything.

And, just as an added troubleshooting step, I deactivated all of the plugins accept for the Simple Facebook Connect plugins and that did not change the result.

Well, without seeing the site live, there’s no way for me to tell. Post a link to the site.

The site is https://orgs.unt.edu/pants/. On Facebook it links to https://orgs.unt.edu/

Your application settings in Facebook must have the wrong URL on them there, somewhere. You should be setting the URL there to https://orgs.unt.edu/pants/.

I’ve been all through the Facebook Application and the only site on there is https://orgs.unt.edu/pants. Here is a screen grab of the application overview (with the API Key and secret removed, of course) https://awesomescreenshot.com/0e61dli5a.

It’s tough to know exactly what has to be set where when Facebook keeps updating their settings too fast for the documentation to keep up.

There has to be something in there somewhere. It can’t create that link from nothingness.

Could there be something that is causing the domain to be dropped from the URL? I am going to try creating a new application and see if that clears anything up.

The new application did the same thing. Where does Facebook get this URL from? Everywhere I’ve looked it is correct. Also, I am now having another problem where if I “like” something on the site it shows up in my news feed twice. Is this a problem on my end or Facebook’s?

The only thing I can think of is that you must have had it wrong at one point and then corrected it. Facebook caches data about URLs. Try it with a new post or something.

I tried with a new post and a) it only posts one story to my mini-feed and b) it omits the website all together and instead just says the post I liked and not where I liked it.

I guess I’ll just chalk it up to Facebook cache issue and hope that it clears itself up soon.

    Hi Friends,

I’m having exactly the same problems firstborn01 describes. After reinstalling plug ins and checking it all with new content items, new urls, replacing old pages for new ones… I’m still having the problem: facebook grabs the wrong URL of my site (actually, grabes a post url when you want to shae your index)…

I was wondering if this is a cache problem and will be cleaned in a few days.

Did it worked for you, Firstborn01?

    Thank you very much!
