Hello and thanks for an excellent plugin!

I need your assistance. WordPress keeps mapping my IPTC Description field to the Caption field – with every upload I end up having to open attachment page and copy paste the caption into the description field.

I would like: Lightroom Description to go to WordPress Description in attachment page. (I’m not sure why wordpress defaults to this. Perhaps becasue in some Lightroom non IPTC metadata settings such as “Minimal” Lightroom does use Description as Caption whereas the “IPTC” option has no Caption field but instead calls it Description.)

I been looking at the Description field under your EXIF/IPTC plugin tab in wordpress. But I can not for the life of me figure out or find the variable to put there! How do I get, description, to actually go to description and not to caption.

Also I would not mind if you know how I Could get caption to go to title!

    Thanks

  • If I recall correctly your source problem is an incongruence between EXIF and IPTC. I get around this by using an LR plugin to wordpress I use https://alloyphoto.com/plugins/nextgen/. But there is also https://apps.meow.fr/wplr-sync/

Thanks Hugh, looking at the second one now actually as I heard of it.

Look forward to Davids upcoming response though as I Am sure it can be done with MLA and I often upload manually!

    Thanks

Thank you for your questions and for your patience in awaiting my reply. I am traveling in Guatemala until 2/17 and have very limited Internet access. I also do not have access to my test/development system until my return.

Here are earlier support topics that may help:

Lightroom mapping Standard and Taxonomy fields

IPTC description is going to caption since update

    IPTC Field Mapping to Lightroom

If you can find the IPTC field that contains the information you need you can select it from the dropdown list. If it’s in an EXIF field you need to know the name to enter in the EXIF/Template text box. You can use the ALL_EXIF pseudo variable:

    List of Usable IPTC Fields

You wrote “I would not mind if you know how I Could get caption to go to title!” When you write “caption” do you mean the WordPress Caption field or a Lightroom field? If it’s Lightroom the information in the above topics should help. If it’s the WordPress Caption field you can try a Content Template like template:[+post_excerpt+] in the EXIF/Template text box. You can find more information in the Settings/Media Library Assistant Documentation tab.

I hope that gives you enough information to make some progress on your application. If not, any additional information you can supply will help me be more specific. Thanks again for your patience and understanding while I am out of the country, and for your interest in the plugin.

It has been a month since the last post in this topic. I assume you have found a solution to the metadata mapping portion of your application.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have any problems or further questions regarding the topic. Thanks for your interest in the plugin.
