For some reason the support topic discussing lightbox effect problems has been marked as resolved. I can confirm at least one issue that persists with NGG v.2.0.27…

The lightbox effect is not working for single NGG images embedded in posts or pages. The lightbox opens for images in galleries when the thumbnail is clicked, but for photos by themselves, the image file opens by itself in the browser window.

I have confirmed all NGG settings and ensured that paths to the proper scripts are correct. See examples below.

Click single images in this sample post:

    Click thumbnails in any gallery:

We are using the shutter effect and it has always worked for single images prior to the 2.x updates. We now have hundreds of posts with images that now reload in the browser window when clicked.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

This issue is still unresolved and I have noticed many more topics started about it since I first posted 4+ months ago. I do, however, have an update…

The Shutter effect still does not work with single images inserted via NGG at full size, even though the ngg-singlepic style does get applied. (Yes, all stylesheets and scripts are in the right place.)

I just discovered that if you insert the image directly with the singlepic shortcode, the effect does work!

This is not an acceptable fix when years of blog posts use the Shutter effect on full size images which still open in a window rather than the lightbox effect. It only works for new images inserted with the shortcode.

I’m hoping this new information may help @photocrati identify the cause and finally fix this problem.

    Thank you!

@agreda – Thanks for pointing out this old topic from your more current one.

Just to recap a bit … does this only happen with the “Shutter” Lightbox effect, or does it happen no matter the Lightbox chosen? Also, we will most likely need to see this on your site as you noted new insertions work fine but older ones do not.

Please send us a Bug Report (https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/ … please reference this topic) with your site specifics and we will see what we can do to help sort out this issue.

We will likely need log in (and FTP) credentials for your WordPress installation, please include those with the Bug Report, too.

    Thanks!

No, images do not display in any Lightbox effect. They all link directly to the image file.

See link in my first post above. Or: https://wp.me/pcxXa-1zq

…you noted new insertions work fine but older ones do not.

No, that is not the case. I noted that the Shutter/Lightbox effect only works IF the image is inserted into a post using the Singlepic shortcode method. It does not work when using the Nextgen Gallery embed image function.

Here is an example of the effect working with the shortcode:
    https://www.liveworkdream.com/2006/04/20/ngg-singlepic-display-issue/

You will note, however, that results in a whole other issue that apparently has yet to be resolved too! Even though the topic is marked as resolved. :-\

@agreda – Can you give us the step-by-step details on how you are inserting the SinglePic images that are not working. I understood this to be an issue with previously inserted images not an ongoing problem.

As to the other topic, the OP stated the issue was resolved for them and that code modification was included in this latest release. If it was not resolved for you then I would suspect it is actually a different issue and a new topic would likely be in order if that is the case.

    Thanks!

give us the step-by-step details on how you are inserting the SinglePic images that are not working.

I said images inserted via the singlepic shortcode do work, and display the full image in the Lightbox effect. That singlepic method just results in the issue described in the other topic.

In reference to this topic. I am referring to the Lightbox effect not working when using these steps to embed a NGG image in a post or page.

Add new post or page (or edit existing one)
        Click Add Media button
        Click Nextgen Gallery link
Select Gallery from drop down menu
        Click Select
        Find desired photo, click Show
Select Full Size, click Insert Into Post
Select image, click Insert link, add link to the image file
        Click edit image settings icon
Add Shutter class to Link CSS Class
        Publish Post
Click photo, see it load in browser, not Lightbox!

sigh… you can shoot me now. :-\

While replicating the steps above, I decided to check the NGG options. The Lightbox effect does get applied after selecting Other Options -> Lightbox Effects -> What must the lightbox be applied to? -> Try to apply to all images that link to image files.

So, NOTE: The issue remains if option is set to “Apply to Nextgen Images”. But I guess I can consider this workaround a resolution.

    @agreda – No worries. Sometimes a work-around is best.

Thanks for taking the time to go through all of the steps and sort this out.
