• Good after noon everyone. I hope I am placing this in the right area, if not please forgive me.

I am currently looking for a plug-in that will help me manage information by placing it into a database and then display it in a page based on category. What I am trying to do is this. I run a website that needs the ability to display and serve a list of different species of fish that include:

    A picture
    Description
    Different water parameters
    Temperament
    Origin
    Etc.

I have been looking through the plug-ins area but can’t find what I need to accomplish this. Any suggestions on a plug-in that would help would be greatly appreciated.

What you need is a custom post type. Generally, this is a programming task, but if you search the plugins on “custom post type”, you’ll find several that will h elp.

Thank you very much Steve ?? I will check that out now.

    Hello Dave,
Suggest that you look at some of the ecommerce product catalogue plugins, such as woocommerce. They provide management of lots of entries, each with descriptive text and images, and most importantly lists of attributes. So if you setup your categories like:
    – marine, freshwater, freshwaterHard
    – social, solitary
    – amazon, congo, thai
    ….. etc
Then you will be able to search and display items based upon combinations of attributes with readily available plugins.

@rossmitchell That sounds like a great idea. I use WooCommeerce on my wife’s site but never thought about using it in this fashion for mine. I am going to give it a try and see how it works out. ??

I did find a plugin that will allow me to categorize the pages and seems ok but if I can do this with WooCommerce it will definitely give me more options for sure.

Many thanks and I will let you know how it works out ??
