• Some may think this is a ‘step back’ for wordpress but in my quest to make my site more like a magazine, I’m trying to figure out how to make s ‘letters to the editor’ page.

I’ll explain. You know how in magazines there is always a section up front where people have written in to comment on a prior month’s article or to compliment or complain? That’s what I want.

The functionality I’m going for would be when people leave a comment is not only goes on the specific post but also on a special comments page. Additionally, people can leave a letter at a form on that page itself.

Almost like a guest book that would also import comments from posts and embed seamlessly on the page.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks! ??

  • I think that with minimal effort you should be able to modify one of the many “comment form” plugins to create a page where users can send a letter to the editor.

If you wanted to collect comments from many posts and show them all in one central location, then you should probably be able to use a “recent comments” widget for this.

I think that by combining those two approaches, you should be able to get at what you’re describing here.

The Better WordPress Recent Comments plugin will do at least part of what you want.

    General steps to follow:

    1. Install and activate the plugin.
    2. Create a new Page to show your comments.
    3. Add the shortcode `[bwp-rc]’ on the Page.
    4. Publish the Page.
    5. View the Page to see the default layout.

The layout is highly configurable by going to Admin->BWP RC and clicking ‘Template Options’. There you can create your own template to control the appearance of the listing.

    Thanks guys!

Dylan, if I knew how to do those types of things I wouldn’t be here. ??

vtxyzzy, that plugin works in theory – but it has problems, mainly, it will only show 4 comments no matter how many you set it for in the admin section. Altering the shortcode is an option ([bwp-rc limit=40]) but then it cuts off the comments.

    Back to the drawing board!

Are you using a free theme? If so, post a link here to its download page so I can take a look.
