    Dear Sir or madam,
I am writing to complain about the level of service that I have received from your volunteer helpers in the WordPress users forum. Not only do I feel insulted but I also feel that I have been treated with utter contempt. I feel so angry that if matters aren’t resolved I will seek legal advice with regards to suing your company.
I set up a wordpress blog which on the whole I am happy with. However I treid to integrate a bbpress forum and that is where the trouble began. At the time about (3 weeks ago) of integrating bbpress I set up a forum which was suitable for integration. I understand that this process has been changed at that this step isn’t necessary.
The issues arose out of the integration process and my having a disused standalone blog (christiansbelieve). I forgot that it existed and I am still unsure why it caused a conflict. I didn’t ask for my bbpress to be linked to the christiansbelieve blog which is what happened.
The conflict was that bbpress linked my account with them to the christiansbeleive blog and not my food for thought blog. This meant that I couldn’t access my bbpress account because when I logged ihn as tony webb (my registered name with bbpress) it kept coming back with a user doesn’t exist message.
I submitted a post in bbpress’ forum asking for my christiansbeleive account to be deleted and my bbpress account to be linked with my food for thought blog. That wasn’t answered. After 5 days I submitted a post to both the wppress and bbpress forums making the same request. All I managed to achieve was to confirm that I owned the profiles and sites. Nothing else was done about this issue and still hasn’t been done. To this day it remains unresolved.
I did submit posts on bbpress but they weren’t being answered and as bbpress is a sister company of wppress and their website said that you could I submitted duplicate posts on wppress I decided to do this. I have not used any bad language or threatening language.
I am now unable to get the integration issue resolved. I had been advised of the website address where I need to delete the stand alone blog. I did this and submitted a post to say that I had done this and was happy that at long last progress had been made. After submitting this post to bbpress I noticed that my post had a pink background with spam written all over it.
I decide to submit the same post to wppress and advised them what had happened on bbpress . I asked if the could forward it for me. This didn’t happen and my posts in the wppress forum are now marked as anonymous and are not answered. By marking them as anonymous it seems that the post is closed.
As previously mentioned I have a bbpress account and profile and still can’t access it. I’m pretty angry because all that is needed is for my bbpress account to be linked with my wordpress account.
The reasons why I need to access my bbpress account is to see if I have set it up correctly and to add some widgets. At the moment if anyone posts something in the bbpress forum is appended to the topic. This makes it difficult for other users to find specific replies. Also I installed some emoticons in wppress but they don’t work in the integrated bbpress account.
I have posted some copies of my posts in bbpress below. Unfortunately I can’t find all of them. When you carry oout a search it seems to pick the names of the last poster..
Bbpress posted 19th November 2011 (pink spam background on forum)
This is about an issue with bbpress. After 3 weeks of posts in their forum I am still unable to get into my account to update it. My posts are now marked as spam and are not being replied to.
I understand that this is wordpress and bbpress’ address in the USA
    WordPress International inc

I would be grateful if someone could make sure that this forum post reaches a wordpress customer services manager.
I will be writing to them and expressing my wish to seek legal action against them. My understanding is that although the bbpress forum service is free by Finnish law I have a legal entitlement to have my issues resolved.
This isn’t a complaint against wordpress volunteers and i would appreciate your help in getting my issue with bbpress resolved.
Below is a copy of my latest forum post on bbpress which on their forum has a pink background which has spam written allover it.
I have integrated bbpress into my wppress blog.
I have set up forums and topics and I am adding a first post to all the topics and forums.
When I write the post this is just appended to the topic heading. There is no sub directory to the topic for listing posting titles.
I don’t know if this is how bbpress works or if I need to get back into it and create sub directoies so that postings in that directory can be listed.

I’m sorry that you feel a massive sense of entitlement to have someone fix your issues for you. This is indeed a poor position to be in.

I’d suggest that the best solution to your problem would be to remove your existing site and database after taking a backup, and start fresh, so that you can find out exactly where you went wrong.

Other than that, it would seem as though you’re potentially taking on more than you can manage to achieve by yourself, and you might need to hire a professional to complete your site integration.

@tony webb, It appears to you might be seriously confusing the whole concept of WordPress. A few preliminaries:

    • WordPress and bbPress are names of software that you can download and install on your own servers
    • Said software is free and open-source, developed and supported by volunteers
    • They are not companies. The “WordPress International Inc” you mention, appears to be a small translation company in California, totally unrelated to the above mentioned software
    • Hence, there are no “customer services managers”, or anything similar
    • It appears that either you, or our hosting company, has installed one or more instances of WordPress and bbPress
    • There is a set of recommendations on how to best use this forum (threatening with law suits is not part of that set, by the way)

In short, WordPress and bbPress are software, free to use as you see fit. The volunteers in this forum aren’t official representatives, they simply, kindly and selflessly donate their time to helping others solve their issues.

If you’re having issues with your installation, the best places to start debugging them are:

Sorry you’re having such a hard time of it and are so upset.

The advice from mrmist is the best and Ze Fontainhas are on point; you do seem to be misunderstanding the situation. And I do continue to admire their restraint.

If you can, set up a new installation strictly for the purpose of learning. Once you’ve got the hang of it THEN consider working on your real site.

Or list your requirements and post a job listing to https://jobs.wordpress.net/ and solicit professional help.

I am writing to complain about the level of service that I have received from your volunteer helpers in the WordPress users forum.

That’s unpaid volunteers. The advice is freely given and you are free to disregard it too.

if matters aren’t resolved I will seek legal advice with regards to suing your company.

That’s a little drastic and a bit daunting. Were I you, I’d demand a full cash refund of all the money you’ve paid the unpaid volunteers before you get to that point. Even in Finland, suing people that you have no established contract with is probably frowned upon.

At the apparent risk of making myself privy to a lawsuit according to your inference of Finnish law, I’m going to try to point you in the right direction.

    1) You are confusing and conflating several different types of services, software applications, and user accounts.

WordPress, generally referred to as self-hosted WordPress or (incorrectly as) www.remarpro.com, is free, open-source CMS software that is, generally speaking, directed by the not-for-profit WordPress Foundation, which also owns the trademarks affiliated with WordPress.

Self-hosted WordPress is intended to be installed on one’s own hosting account, and reads/writes data to/from a MySQL database that is also installed on one’s own hosting account. Upon (and after) installation of self-hosted WordPress, the user creates one (or more) user accounts, the information for which is stored in the user’s own database, installed on the user’s own hosting account.

WordPress.com is a managed/hosted blogging service that is built upon the WordPress CMS software (using a core featured called “MultiSite” that allows for one WordPress installation to manage one or more networks of sites), and is owned and operated by the for-profit company Automattic.

With this service, the WordPress software is installed on servers owned by Automattic, and read/write data to/from a MySQL database installed on servers owned by Automattic. With this service, users merely create user accounts, and then use those accounts to create content.

This link will help you understand the differences between self-hosted WordPress and the WordPress.com hosted blogging service:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Since the user accounts for any given installation of WordPress are defined in the database specific to that installation, user accounts are not interchangeable between installations of WordPress. Thus, your user account for your self-hosted WordPress installation will not work on wordpress.com, and vice versa.

bbPress is free, open-source forum software that is, in its most recent incarnation (i.e. Version 2.0), designed as a Plugin for the WordPress CMS software. It is designed to work within WordPress, and uses the same database. That also means that the bbPress 2.0 Plugin and the self-hosted WordPress in which it is installed use the same user accounts.

Prior to version 2.0, bbPress was designed as stand-alone forum software, entirely separate from WordPress, used its own database, and had its own Plugins and Templates. Version 2.0 of bbPress is incompatible with prior versions of bbPress; likewise, Plugins and Templates designed for prior versions of bbPress are incompatible with bbPress version 2.0.

www.remarpro.com is the website for the self-hosted WordPress project, built on its own installation of self-hosted WordPress and bbPress, on servers owned and managed by Matt Mullenweg. Note that this install also uses the “MultiSite” feature, and is an entire network of sites, also including bbPress.org.

Since both www.remarpro.com and bbPress.org are part of a single, self-hosted WordPress install, your www.remarpro.com user account also works on bbpress.org (and, for that matter, all of the other www.remarpro.com-affiliated sites, which could be listed, but are generally not relevant to your issues).

And I reiterate: Since the user accounts for any given installation of WordPress are defined in the database specific to that installation, user accounts are not interchangeable between installations of WordPress. Thus, your user account for your self-hosted WordPress installation is entirely separate from your user account for wordpress.com, and both of these accounts are entirely separate from your www.remarpro.com user account.

When asking questions in the support forum, it is critical to understand the differences between these software scripts and services, and to clarify the software and/or services to which your questions apply.

There have been a lot of replies on this issue but still my initial complaint hasn’t been resolved,

    I note chip’ response which I’ve pasted a snippet off below;

When integrating bbpress with wordpress there was a form asking for some information from my wordpress acount. I couldn’t find some of the key information required and submitted a post. The reply to that post was to just click the integrate button as the wppress had just been updated but not the documentation.

I did that and was given (from one of your forum user) some ?javascript code to insert in a file so that the logins between the forum and blog could be shared. This might be the problem. This is the only code that I’ve added to the wordpress files. The problems of have not being able to access my bbpress account occurred after the integration process and inserting this short piece of code.

I know nothing about coding so the mistakes have not been made by me. All i’ve done is drag and drop or activate plugins and followed instructions that I have been told are out of date.

Despite all the posts concerning my not being able to access my bbpress account no one has passed that information on. My assumption was that as wordpress don’t offer tech support that some members of the forum team have access to techies. From my understanding all that is needed is for my account name to be linked with my bbpress password. So that it can be accessed.

It may be that that code I was asked to insert is rogue. I spent much of yesterday trying to reorganise the layout and side bar menus. I had a lot of problems with that. I eventually discovered that after publishing the page the changes weren’t made. If I clicked on the menu option I could see the changes.

This morning when I looked at my wordpress blog there was no image and the image that I used (my own) was not available in the themes page. In addition to this my menu bar had been changed and was referencing pages that didn’t exist in my blog or forum.

The java script code was to share passwords and logins.

I was only made aware that the issue could be with my database or a file from one of the above responses.

One of the above suggestions was that I start again. I can’t do that because I am unable to create a new account.

I have set up a symposium forum. that was problematic but I have managed to get that working correctly and will be updating my website with it as soon as I have transferred the posts and stickys.

In the “out of date documentation” for integrating the databases it did say that once I had integrated bbpress with wpress that only one of the databases will be used. I opted for the wpress database. I still have the bbpress database in the same database directory.

Someone has stated in the above posts that I should check the database set up with my hosting company. I will do that. It’s a pity these suggestions weren’t made when i first posted this problem. As mentioned I am green to these sort of thing and wouldn’t have even considered that the hosting company may have caused the problem (not a moan, just an observation with the wisdom of hindsight)

    When integrating bbpress with wordpress…

FULLSTOP. The current version of bbPress (i.e. version 2.0) does not require “integration” with WordPress. It is a WordPress Plugin, and is already fully integrated.

…there was a form asking for some information from my wordpress acount.

Admittedly, I’ve not used bbPress 2.0 hardly at all (I’ve not done much with it since about version 1.1); however, I just activated it to verify. bbPress does not ask for any sort of integration details..

I couldn’t find some of the key information required and submitted a post.

Where did you submit this “post”? This forum? The bbPress.org forum? The wordpress.com forum?

The reply to that post was to just click the integrate button as the wppress had just been updated but not the documentation.

What version of bbPress are you using? What version of WordPress are you using?

I did that and was given (from one of your forum user)…

Again: FULLSTOP. It’s not my forum. They’re not my forum users.

some ?javascript code to insert in a file so that the logins between the forum and blog could be shared.

This step is not required with the current version of bbPress. The “integration” process was only required in the older, stand-alone version of bbPress, before it became a WordPress Plugin, as of version 2.0.

This might be the problem. This is the only code that I’ve added to the wordpress files. The problems of have not being able to access my bbpress account occurred after the integration process and inserting this short piece of code.

Try removing this code, uninstalling your obsolete version of bbPress, deleting the bbPress-related tables in the database, and installing the bbPress 2.0 WordPress Plugin, from inside WordPress. (Note: this process involves loss of data. Backing up is your responsibility.)

I know nothing about coding so the mistakes have not been made by me.

If you’re going to use self-hosted WordPress (or any other self-hosted web application, for that matter), you need to learn to own your own actions. Support forum volunteers only offer advice. We neither have nor want access to your hosting account, and therefore can only offer general suggestions and advice. You need to know (or learn) how to manage your own installed applications. If you don’t know, then learn; if you can’t learn, then find someone you can pay to teach you, or to do it for you.

All i’ve done is drag and drop or activate plugins and followed instructions that I have been told are out of date.

What, exactly, are you dragging and dropping? And where?

Despite all the posts concerning my not being able to access my bbpress account no one has passed that information on.

It appears that you are using an obsolete version of bbPress. Use the current version instead.

Nobody here can manage your user accounts for you. If you don’t understand this point, then re-read my original reply, more carefully this time.

My assumption was that as wordpress don’t offer tech support that some members of the forum team have access to techies.

I have no idea what this even means.

From my understanding all that is needed is for my account name to be linked with my bbpress password. So that it can be accessed.

Your understanding is incorrect. Re-read my original reply, more carefully this time.

The java script code was to share passwords and logins.

Not required. bbPress version 2.0 is a WordPress Plugin, and as such already has full access to the WordPress user tables in the database.

One of the above suggestions was that I start again. I can’t do that because I am unable to create a new account.

Create a new account where, exactly? And why do you think you need to create a new account? Once again: re-read my original reply, more carefully this time.

Once you’re squared away regarding what’s what regarding WordPress, wordpress.com, www.remarpro.com, and bbPress, you’ll understand why any future questions specifically regarding bbPress should be directed to bbpress.org.

As for the the documentation being “out of date”: that’s not entirely true, either. Linked from the Front Page of bbpress.org, I find:

I don’t know what version pf bbpress I’m using as I can’t access it. WordPress is 3.2.1 (the latest version). I assume that they are the both the latest versions as I’ve only recently downloaded them.

FULLSTOP. The current version of bbPress (i.e. version 2.0) does not require “integration” with WordPress. It is a WordPress Plugin, and is already fully integrated.

I followed the available online wordpress documentation. After submitting a post about not finding auth_keys I was advised that the documentation was out of date as bbpress had just been upgraded.

I have a back up of wpress so that shouldn’t be a problem. I would appreciate some help to find the code if you know what file it might be in? It did have auth_key in it if it helps and it was to share the bbpress and wppress logins and user accounts. I can continue to search for. I can’t find the forum thread or the email with it in (my fault).

Nobody here can manage your user accounts for you. If you don’t understand this point, then re-read my original reply, more carefully this time.

I should have read your post a bit more carefully. I was working on the assumption that all software forums follow the same set up. I use another software where some forum users are volunteers but work within the software companies office. My fault.

I wrote the initial post because I was angry at my posts being marked as spam in bbpress and as anonymous in wppress. In my opinion there was no need for it. I initially asked for some straight forward advice. The only answers I got were about what I can and can’t do. If someone had offered the advice about resolving my issues that you have I would have been happy with going along with it. At least i’ve now got some directions to what needs to be done.

it’s a pity that I had to write the original post in this topic to get some helpful answers. A lot of the previous replies were suggesting that I paid for someone to resolve my issues. Which I don’t believe to be the case.

If you read other postings in this post you will see contributors suggesting that I hire an adviser. It made me wonder if this forum is just a platform for volunteers to sell their consultancy services or if it intended for solving user problems etc.

I did watch a video about integrating bbpress with wppress. It must have been the older version because it wasn’t on the bbpress system when I tried to return to it the next day to make notes of what I need to do.
The screen shots weren’t compatible with what I was seeing in bbpress.

Heres a link to my bbpress forum set up

As you can see there were problems with how it appears on the screen (right hand side cut off). it is also very different from how it appears in wordpress. I prefered the bbpress version. Apparently this isn’t an issue with all browsers. I use google chrome.

Perhaps I got caught up in the change over. I’m happy with wppress but when you look at the link and how my forum appears it’s a sign of trouble ahead from the very start!

Unless you want to make more comments I’m happy to close this thread and leave it at that.

    As for setting up a new account etc I was responding to this response which was made earlier in this forum;

Your reference to creating a new account is what leads me to believe that you don’t really understand. The suggestion is to remove all evidence of your current bbPress installation (delete the files via FTP, and delete the database tables via PHPMyAdmin), and start over with bbPress, not to start over with WordPress.

Once you’ve removed all evidence of bbPress, verify that you can still access your self-hosted WordPress admin interface. Once you’ve verified that you can access your admin interface, then go to Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New, and then search for/install “bbPress”.

Activate the Plugin. No further integration is required.

I assume that they are the both the latest versions as I’ve only recently downloaded them.

If you downloaded bbPress from the bbpress.org web site, then it is doubtful that you are using the latest version. If you manually installed the bbPress files, rather than installing bbPress through the WordPress add-new-Plugin interface, then I guarantee that you’re not using the latest version.

I wrote the initial post because I was angry at my posts being marked as spam in bbpress and as anonymous in wppress. In my opinion there was no need for it.

I’m not a moderator, so I won’t comment on that, beyond stating that double-posting, bumping, demanding responses – and, not to mention, threats to sue – are likely to draw moderator attention.

I initially asked for some straight forward advice. The only answers I got were about what I can and can’t do.

Nothing about your questions has really been straightforward – in large part due to confusion regarding what software and services you were using, and how you were attempting to make them all work together. Also, you were asking for things that are impossible for forum volunteers (or anyone else) to do, such as managing user accounts for your self-hosted WordPress and/or self-hosted stand-alone bbPress installations – or asking for things that needed to be asked in other venues, such as your wordpress.com issues (that should be asked in wordpress.com support) or specific bbPress issues (that should be asked in the bbpress.org support forums).

If someone had offered the advice about resolving my issues that you have I would have been happy with going along with it. At least i’ve now got some directions to what needs to be done.

I read through every single one of your 22 started topics. In all honesty, you didn’t get the replies you needed/wanted, because almost all of your questions were asked quite poorly. See here for more information regarding how to write questions more effectively:

I assumed the same with wordpress and bbpress. Bigger organisation should equal more volunteers (Just an assumption that I made).

I didn’t start writing threatening letters until after the spam notice and the anonymous attachments to my post in wppress.

If someone had answered my original post about not being able to access bbpress that they forum volunteers don’t have access to make the required changes. Then none of this what has followed would have happened. Instead someone makes a half hearted attempt and I am left wandering what to do next.
