    Gutenberg was a mess from the very beginning. I immedidately switched to classic editor on all customer sites. Recently, I had to optimize a site that was (poorly) built with the block theme editor and Gutenberg. Since the customer wanted to keep Gutenberg, I gave it a second try. Boy, was I disappointed. UX and UI are still simply horrible.

    If disabling Gutenberg will stop working someday, I will leave WordPress.

    So, 5 stars for this gem!

    Hi @cutu234 thank you for sharing your experience with the Classic and Block editor.

    If you check the Classic plugin’s description it seems like the plugin will be supported until 2024 or as long as it is necessary. So it is important for folks to leave comments, maybe that will help increase the life span of the plugin.

    Do you have any suggestions that could the developers to improve users experience with the blocks editor?

    Unfortunately, it’s hard to say where to begin. In addition to that, as a developer who can write HTML fluently I have a very different perspective compared to users who only know the visual editor.

    One super annoying detail is selecting block elements. Without list view it’s really hard to get the right element selected. To make it worse: Some elements are simply not visible in block mode (spacer elements, for example). It can easily take me 5 or 6 clicks to eventually select the element.

    Another nice thing would be a real HTML-Mode where all comments are removed. Not sure that this is even possible. But for me it is very annoying to have all these comments between the good old HTML.

    Last not least: WYSIWYG! With a little effort I can make the classic editor look like EXACTLY like the webpage. Yes, it needs a little bit more attention, since you can mess it up more easily when DIVs are used. Gutenberg is lightyears off from anything close to WYSIWYG.

    The interface is quite difficult to work with, there are certain things that could use some looking into. There are a number of open issues on GitHub concerning UI for the block editor, please feel free to add your suggestions. You also mentioned that you are a bit comfortable with code, please feel free to help there if you would like as well.

    Are you referring to the comments added when you are working with the code editor? For example:

    <!-- wp:paragraph -->
    <!-- wp:quote -->

    You would like to have the option to opt out of those when working with the code editor?

    Yes, exactly. These comments are very distracting and are not helpful when working in HTML mode. Not sure that this is technically possible, but I would really like to have this option.

    I see what you mean, more like having a distraction-free zone when using the code editor. I think it might help to create a GitHub issue asking for the option to opt out of the descriptive HTML comments for the code editor. Would you like to create this issue or do you need some assistance?
