Hello, I am also having legitimate comments being blocked with this erro:

    Go back and try again.
    Error: empty answer. []
Comment was blocked because it is spam.

I do not have Jetpack or any other antispam plugin installed. Are there any other known conflicts I should look for?

    Very strange.
Everything seems good, but the plugin does not work.
I will investigate more and I will write you back later.

In my opinion Anti-spam plugin is conflicting with javascript of the theme.
Theme tries to emulate labels as a cross-browser placeholders and this replaces the values of the Anti-spam hidden inputs with text from labels.

I am having a similar problem. Someone told me that she was getting the spam message when she tried to comment on my site: nerdtrips.net. She has commented before.

I tried it as well and got the same issue, same screen as Skygirl posted.

Then I deactivated the anti-spam plug-in and was able to leave a comment.

Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

@nerd Trips: I think Anti-spam plugin is not compatible with “Explorable” theme.
Explorable theme emulate placeholder behavior and this produce issue in Anti-spam hidden input fields.

Webvitaly, thank you for responding to this issue for us. Right now it is easier to change my antispam plugin than my theme, but I will likely come back to you later if I change themes. Your plugin lives up to its awesomely simple, effective billing. ??

Had the same issue…my users complained.

@fthomsen2: Can you post link to your site?

    Hi,

I’m having the same issue with the Explorable theme, but this was no problem before! Plugin has been running smoothly for a year, but now i have the same issues as described above.

Had to disable the plugin and i really don’t want to do that! I would be really happy it you can find a fix for it!

    url is: https://www.beinginmotion.eu/blog/

    @ Webconnectie:

Anti-spam plugin is not compatible with this theme because author made custom javascript placeholders instead of simple labels.
Same issue have all the previous commenters.

I made a quick fix. You may download updated version from here and try it on your site – https://web-profile.com.ua/wp-content/uploads/anti-spam-placeholder-fix.zip

P.S. This version only rely on javascript and users with disabled javascript will not be able to submit comment. Javascript is disabled on 1% of devices.
