I don’t seem to be able to see my “legitimate” subscribers — although I have confirmed some of them have subscribed (and are receiving the updates). But they don’t show up as users. And I never received any email about them subscribing.

    BUT …
The subscribers that ARE listed as “users” are known “hackers/spammers”. I have 5 of them who subscribed & got on the user list — and I also got an email saying they are subscribing!
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]

So my legitimate customers are not appearing as users, despite the fact that they signed up on the site, received the confirmation email & completed the subscription process. I never got any email about them, have no idea they are subscribing, but from what I can tell, they do get the updated posts.
Here are 2 of the “legit” email addresses that I don’t see (but should) as a user:
    [email protected],
    [email protected]

So how did the spammers get there, but not my legitimate customers/followers?

    Here’s my site:

    Thank you for your help!

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

You seem to be confusing Registered Users and Jetpack subscribers:

    • Registered Users appear under Users > All Users in your dashboard, and register through the “Register” link on your log in page. You receive an email notification when they do so. They do not receive any notifications about your new posts, and are not related to Jetpack in any way. You can disable these spam registrations by going to Settings > General in your dashboard.
    • Jetpack Subscribers can be found by following these steps. They do not appear under Users > All Users, and you do not receive an email notification when they sign up. They can sign up via the Subscription form in your sidebar.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Meanwhile, after receiving a very helpful email from a person at WordPress (over the weekend, even!)I did learn that I was confusing the different terms, as you mention here.

I will keep the link to the resource you provided and re-read. Think I’m starting to understand, but guess it takes a while.

Even when I follow the directions to find my subscribers under Jetpack, I do not see them. There is not even a tab that says “Subscribers” as there apparently should be. Do I need to enable this capability somehow? As it stands now, there is absolutely nowhere where I can see a list of my subscribers.

@susannabarbee Here is a quick video to show you how to access a list of your Jetpack subscribers:
    https://i.wpne.ws/RwLo/content

If that doesn’t help, could you start your own thread and let me know your site URL so I can have a closer look?
You can also contact us via email:

    Thanks!
