• Hi guys,

I am new to this amazing worldpress world. I am currently creating a new website and I am also starting my new web design business.

I am in Costa Rica, and I have realized that creating a website with WordPress is quite easy and fast, so I would like to give it a try and offer this service.

What I am not quite sure at this moment, is that since I am creating the websites from WordPress templates, since there are property rights to each one of those templates, do I need to leave the creator name on my site? Do I need to leave the “Powered by wordpress” link on each one of the sites.

I am going to be straight forward to my customers, advising them that all those websites will be created from templates, but still, I wouldn′t like the wordpress link on my site, but also, I can not take all the credit of those works.

So, my question is, is there any legal problem if I remove the creator and wordpress links from my site? It′s not that I want to take the credit for those works, but neither I want to leave those links on my sites.

    Any advise?

  • If you have a self hosted theme, you can customize the theme as you wish. It’s always nice to provide a link back to WordPress when applicable. It’s also nice to give credit where credit is do, though removing or changing the footer text in a theme is a common customization that is made.

What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    Thanks for the answer Luke.

esmi, actually I have different themes, they were give to me because of a purchase that I made online, however, the guy who gave them to me I don′t think he has the right to distribute them. He purchased some on elegantthemes.com and also some that he got somewhere else.

I am using at this moment Parabola, but I am not quite sure exactly which one I am going to keep. However, this one is for free download on the wordpress website, so I am not quite sure how many rights I have to change it and remove the copyright information.

    Thanks

If it’s a WPORG hosted theme you can change whatever you like. All themes hosted here are released under GPL which means that you are not limited in any way. I’m afraid we cannot answer for themes downloaded elsewhere, though.

Thanks again for the answer. That′s great to know. So, last question would be, can I use something like “created by TuanisWeb.com” (which is one of my sites) or I can not use a pharese like that. I mean, I know that I didnt create it, but I modified it, so it would like different from the original.

    I really appreciate your answer.

Problem is, that the law in Costa Rica is different, and here they don′t think this kind of property rights is that important. But since my hosting is in USA, I am not quite sure what kind of things I can or can not do.

    Thanks.

can I use something like “created by TuanisWeb.com” (which is one of my sites)

You can use whatever you want. WordPress & www.remarpro.com does not impose anything on its users.
