Left and/or Right Columns Plugin

I was wondering if it’s possible to create columns plugin. For this reason we can have design options within WordPress. For us newbies, it’s very frustrating. Take time and learn? Yes it helps but it would be nice though.
You can decide if you like to have 1-2-or even 3 colums and options so you can what you wish to have on those columns. I know some of you probably too hot for columns but it’s a good idea though.
