No, you do not need to leave it activated. The keys it creates remain in place even when you deactivate it. You can even uninstall it.
Information security people often suggest you uninstall plugins not in use. That’s good advice: fewer plugins means less stuff in your web site for cybercreeps to try to attack. You can uninstall this one and still get the benefit of the improved keys.
