I am creating a template on WordFence central.
But for the firewall learning mode, it wants me to set a specific date to enable the firewall.
I cannot see how setting a specific date is going to work, as this would requir ethe template to be constantly updated with a new date, which defeats the point in a template.
Is there no way to set it to enable after 1 week?

  • Currently there is not. I believe the default setting is one week after the Wordfence installation so leaving this setting blank should work.

As an aside, as our Firewall evolves and our rules are being updated we’re seeing less and less false positives so learning mode is now less necessary. Of course, if you do get blocked messages inside the WordPress admin while doing normal things, you can enable learning mode and perform the action again to whitelist it.

    Hi @lordsnake

I don’t understand your request. You set a date for when Learning Mode will cease and then the firewall will automatically switch to Enabled and Protecting on all sites that template is assigned to.

You can read more about Learning Mode here:

Wfphil have your actually tried using the templates?
I know exactly what the seeing does, which is the point in my question.
You need to use a bit of logic here, If I set learning mode to stop on the 29th Jan for example, what then happens if I use the templates after this date.
It is either going to ignore the date because it is in the past and never disabled learning mode or is going to disable learning mode immediately because that date had already passed.

    Hi @lordsnake

    Thank you for the update.

For example, you create a template for ten sites, you set the Learning Mode to run for one week and assign the template to all ten sites. After one week the firewall status will switch from Learning Mode to Enabled and Protecting.

Then say a month later you wanted to add another five sites to Wordfence Central then you will need to create a new template.

If you used the old template then the firewall status will be set to Learning Mode for the five new sites and the other ten sites that you added previously will also revert back to Learning Mode.

yes that was exactly my point, you have to keep creating new templates all the time just to change that date.
If there was a way to just set it to “1 week later”, then this would solve that problem.

Although Tim has stated above that leaving it blank will do this.
