• We have a WordPress E-Learning site running Learndash providing training to over 130,000 users, so our exposure is very high and this problem is killing our business.

For over a year now we have been providing training to our customers that uses Learndash’s video progression feature, for example in one of our courses that has three topics, allow the student to progress to the next topic only when a Vimeo video has been completely viewed.

A “next topic” button is enabled when the video is completed.

Last night video progression stopped working suddenly (no changes on our end) and we now are getting volumes of support notifications that the user can’t complete the course because the “next topic” button never is enabled.

When our IT team tests the course, the button enables properly.

But something changed last night and lots and lots of our customers are experiencing this, which has never happened before.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  • I am experiencing something similar on one of my sites. Did you ever figure out what the issue was?

    Hi @brenonline ,

If you enabled the “Mark Complete Button” option under the “After completing sub-steps” option in the lesson’s Video Progression settings, it will stop automatic lesson completion.

Please disable the “Mark Complete Button” and enable the “Lesson Auto-Completion” option to keep this feature working.

Please take a look at this screenshot: https://www.screencast.com/t/alsEq7teItFi

Same issue just started happening a couple of days ago!! No warnings tons of complaints. OMG I really hope this fixes itself when I am now updating LD to 4.4.1.2 – I have 10 sites and hundreds if videos set to before sub set. WHAT DO I DO – I can’t possibly go in and change every single setting – IT is LONG overdue to have the ability to set MORE options (like for ALL courses in the GLOBAL course/lesson/video SETTINGS – like this one) I cannot believe that noone has made a bulk update that actually works – even a csv I would deal with!! Please help.

I have a site using Astra theme and Elementor builder with Learndash installed. For some reason video progression is not working. I have the setting for “Before completed sub-steps” selected because we need the student to watch the video before the test/quiz can be taken. This was working and has stopped within the last few months. please advise! the video is being watched in it’s entirety and it is giving the students the error that they must complete the video???? I cannot seem to fix. I have deactivated plugins and changed the WordPress theme. it’s still not working.

    Hi @sluchon84,

Video Progression is handled by LearnDash, please check with LearnDash support for their known bugs.

We tried with LearnDash v4.4.0 and it works like this:

Created a Course with a lesson that includes a topic.

    Video Progressions settings:
YouTube Video with Before completed sub-steps checked.

    1. Watched the full video and it displayed the topics automatically after watching.
    2. Clicked the topic link and this plugin completed the topic in the background. However, It didn’t complete the lesson automatically.
    3. Now I clicked the Mark Complete button on the topic and it took me back to the lesson page.
    4. Now, this plugin completed the Lesson automatically in the background.

Learndash 4.5.4.3 – Astra theme. Video progression does not work.

“Lesson Auto-Completion” enabled under the “After completing sub-steps. “Mark Complete Button” option disabled. But it does not matter, the video progression does not work.

Tried with YouTube and Vimeo. Disable all the other plugins with no effect. Someone else facing the same issue?

We have been experiencing this issue for 2 years on a site with 18,000 users. It went quiet for a while but is now back, with multiple tickets in the last few days. This is what we found in LearnDash: The “resume video” toggle makes the topics get stuck during slow internet connection. i.e if student is watching video and during this period when internet gets momentarily disconnected or speed became slow, then upon video completion the jQuery function doesn’t load and the quizzes don’t appear and student gets stuck there. We found that a topic which got stuck had quizzes as “displany:none” and it could only become “display:block” if jquery function woks on video completion. So we believe that this happens due to slow or disconnected internet connection.
