• Hi guys,

I want to learn how to create wordpress themes, and I need to learn as quickly as possible. I am familiar with html and css, and I have a limited knowledge of PHP. Can anyone recommend a particularly good tutorial online that will help? I’ve found hundreds by just doing Google searches, but I have no idea which are the good ones.

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks.

What specifically do you want to learn?
Learning WordPress as a whole is a lengthy process.

Thanks for the (very) quick responses. I am very familiar with WordPress itself, and I’ve installed and tweaked a huge number of themes over the years. However, I’ve never taken a graphic design (like a PSD) and turned it into a theme, and I wouldn’t know where to start.

It sounds as though you’ll need to create templates for each graphic design.
That resource WPyogi pointed out has a section for template development.

In addition to the Theme Development Codex page, I’m a huge fan of the ThemeShaper Tutorial written by the Automattic theme team. The second edition is brand-new and based on the latest best practices, and it does a nice job of walking you through what different pieces of a theme do and how they work together.

^ what Amy said. As far as going from PSD to WordPress it is simple since you have the HTML and CSS background. There are plenty of tutorials on that process as well. ??
