• Does anyone have experience with using LDAP and network settings to set up access to WP on a server?

Basically, Our school district uses LDAP as part of our login configuration for our network, controlling access rights etc to server. I was curious if WordPress could be set to use LDAP and existing login rights and login lists…

Any help our ideas on this would be greatly appreciated… our network IT guy is just overly paranoid over giving access to our server.

    Thanks!

  • Top of my head I would imagine that you would potentially need write access to the LDAP server if you plan on having a two way conversation between LDAP and WP. It sounds like the network guy at the school district would not, and most likely should not, allow that.

I would search for a plugin that integrates access and entitlements with external systems such as LDAP or even app servers. This could be failrly complicated.

A more simple solutions would be to host the WP blog externally and add the links from the school website to the blog. That way you would have control over the blog content as well as user registration.

It would seem that at one time there was a plug-in for LDAP usage:

    https://patcavit.com/2005/05/11/wordpress-ldap-and-playing-nicely/

    LDAP authencation 1.01

But does anyone know if this will work with WP 2.0? If not is there another similar plug-in?

If I want it to work with LDAP does that mean having to use WP 1.5?
