I’ve picked up a client who’s asked me to make some updates and changes to a site built by a previous vendor. The site is built on this theme, which I have not used before. I’ve been working with WP since 2009, but not every day. While I can say I know WP, I certainly do not know everything.

I cannot figure out, for the life of me when viewing https://harperandgracie.com/category/news/ why this happens:

What clue am I missing here?

Followup question… is anyone reading the threads for this theme, or is it dead?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • It’s pretty much dead, I’d say. IMO, rebuild with a a different theme like Hello and Elementor page builder = your client will thank you later~

Yeah, looks like the developer of this theme has moved on to other things.

The issues I’m seeing in the site aren’t (yet) dramatic enough to convince the client to pay me to rebuild it on something else. So it goes.

    Hi,

Apologies for the late reply. I never received a notification on this issue.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve made any changes to this theme and there’s not likely to be any in the future. With that said, the theme itself still runs perfectly well on the latest version of WordPress (currently 6.3.2 as of today). I have a demo site where you can see the main blog archive, and here’s a Category archive.

As for why you’re getting multiple “more” and “continue reading” links, I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head, sorry. It should definitely only show a single “Continue reading” link so my guess is that original site developers have some custom function in their child theme functions.php file that is adding an extra “more” link.

The “Best Coldbrew Martini” post doesn’t appear to exist on the site. Or at least, it’s not published, which is why it doesn’t show on the News Category archive page. If you look at your main Blog archive, there looks to be only two (published) Posts on the site.

To show the Post excerpt on the Blog or a Category archive post, all you need to do is add a “read more” tag into your Post content. e.g. Add it after the first paragraph and the theme will show that first paragraph as the excerpt. You can insert a “read more” tag using the “Insert Read More tag” icon in the Classic Editor, or the “More” Block if using the Block Editor.

The Category archive page (e.g. the /category/news/ page) is displayed with the category.php template in Quark. It would be worth checking the main parent theme to see if they’ve overridden this template file.

    I hope all this helps.
