Loving the shoutbox, and everything seems to be working flawlessly except for the layout. The volume control and update spinning wheel show up in a small box below the shoutbox widget in my sidebar, which overlaps with my next widget (making the volume controls unusable and my website ugly).

Is there a fix for this? If not, having it show up on the same line as the publish button would seem to be a good alternative/good use of space.

    Thank you in advance!

I commented the lines for warning, spinner, lock and speaker for now, which fixes the issue, but removed the features.

    Hi anon58,

the shoutbox design greatly depends on the theme that a concrete WordPress installation is using. I have finetuned the design for all the standard WP themes (from twentyten to twentysixteen) but it is not possible for me to tune it for every theme in the world. So no, there is no fix planned for design changes — if a user wants to use a different theme then one of the standard WP themes, then it is his responsibility to take care of the design.

Editing the plugin itself (“I commented the lines for warning, spinner, lock and speaker for now”) is not a good idea, as new versions of plugin will take things back.

If you want to adapt the design to your expectations, you need to override the CSS for the shoutbox. Not delete it, not modify it, but override it. If you have your own theme, then it is possible to do it right in your theme, but if you are using a common theme, then it is not a good idea, as new version of the theme will remove your changes (just like with plugin in previous paragraph). The best way is to use some kind of Custom CSS plugins for this, there are several available, e.g. one as a part of Jetpack plugin (from Auttomattic, authors of WordPress).

    Thank you for understanding.

    HONZA,

Is it possible to have this display at the top of the body and not in the sidebar, with the widgets?

    Thank you,
