• Well, I’ve gotten login working, and I believe I’ve managed to integrate the index.php and wp-layout.css files (from 1.01 and 1.2) integrated ok. But I’m back to layout chaos. I’ve tried a few different ways to fix this but nothing I am trying is working. I got an answer to this question earlier today but the solution doesn’t seem to be working this time around. I’m not quite sure what I’m doing wrong.
Thanks for your help. I think this blog is *almost there* so to speak.

  • Bingo !
    Anything need altering ?

I think the stuff that I need to alter I can change without any problems (I saved parts of my old index.php file that aren’t showing up here). I hope you won’t gasp with too much horror at the thought of me going back in there. ??
Thanks for all your help. I guess I shouldn’t have messed with the wp-layout.css file. Keep the civilians out of military affairs, right? (goofy analogy all mine)

The menu is being positioned using position: absolute with a top and left margins of 5px;. It is actually appearing with those margins it is just not in the right place.
The CSS positioning model for absolute is that the margins are with reference to the containing block. From that I can only infer that it is not in a containing block (another div wrapped around it). I have had a look and it is not immediately obvious where it should go. I am still not clear how much editing this file has had.
But as a first step I would open a new div with an id of main just before the content, and close it just after the menu. It may not work, so be ready to adjust, but something of that nature is required. (in my last post I was looking at the wrong page – sorry). The new div should not require any positioning. If it all blows up simply remove the new div. HTH.

CSS is totally fine to mess with, just make all changes 1 at a time, and see what you have done before doing the next thing ??
Still, there are different ways to learn ??

Heh… I hope the installation of automatic plugins won’t be too much of a chore. ?? I’m guessing I need to get smilies back now that the my-hacks file is gone. (rubs bloody hands together with glee as he goes back into the surgery room).

my-hacks is not technically “gone” so use it until you transfer each over to a plugin. (By that I mean use the old hack until you install the new 1.2 plugin of that particular hack)

I just want to offer my thanks to Beel and Podz for all their help a day or so ago. One of the factors that I like most about WordPress is the incredible support I’ve gotten, even when I was having obscene difficulty figuring out what probably would have been simple problems to many people. So thanks again.

You are more than welcome !
My take is that we’ve all been there at some point …

Well you are right on the money now near enough. Welcome to Word Press.
