Hi there, p2 isn’t a responsive theme, so it’s probably not going to look great on a small mobile device, no matter what the language. I just tested p2 in both English (LTR) and Farsi (RTL) and didn’t see any “squishing” at small screen sizes, though it’s difficult to read because the layout doesn’t resize responsively.
You may want to try a mobile theme like the one offered with Jetpack: https://jetpack.me/support/mobile-theme/
Apart from that, if you’d like me to take a look at your site, please provide a link and let me know what device (i.e. iPhone 5s), iOS (i.e. 8.0) and browser (i.e. Safari) you’re using.
Kathryn,
I am a p2 rookie and I need help. I have a self hosted site and Im trying out P2 for the first time. I read so many great things about P2 being a great collaboration tool so I decided to try it.
The problem is with mobile devices. I want all my students and instructors to be able to use P2 for a collaboration project this January and I want it to be easy for all them to use.
Many of them don’t sit by desktop machines, they use phones. P2 on a phone looses the sidebar the great such as categories, tags, and so on. I have scoured the web looking for solutions but I can’t find anyone who can help me with P2. Since Automattic touts P2 as it’s primary communication tool for a worldwide distributed company, I figure lots of your people must be utilizing this on mobile devices.
Can you guide me to how to set this up so it works for mobile users? I tried the Houston theme by woo and it does work (not perfectly) but it isn’t great.
I’ve also put my email in for a copy of O2 but have had no reply. Any help would be appreciated.
I can definitely appreciate that most of your folks need to access the site via mobile devices.

There is no simple way to turn p2 into a responsive theme, as that would be a major overhaul, and isn’t something that can be done quickly or easily.
If you wanted to fork the theme and hire someone to redo the design so it’s responsive, or create a responsive child theme, that would be one route you could take.

We do! However, we no longer use this unresponsive version of p2 – we use a newer version (based on o2) that isn’t yet available for self-hosted sites.

If you are interested in beta-testing o2 on WordPress.com, let me know and I can see about getting you added to that list, but as I mentioned, it isn’t yet ready for self-hosted sites.
Another option is to try activating a mobile theme which would kick in only on smaller mobile devices like phones. It would at least allow folks to read the content and do basic things like leave comments, but it would not have the special real-time functionality that p2 has. One mobile-theme option is the one built into Jetpack.
Thank you so much for the reply. Yes I would like to be on the list for O2. You said it isn’t yet available for self hosted sites. I am assuming then that if I was included as a beta tester I would need to build my site on wordpress.com?

Yep, that’s correct. Testing is currently only under way on WordPress.com. I will see if we can get you added to the beta testers there.
Hi akseo – to get you started as a beta tester, please go ahead and create a site you’d like to use over at WordPress.com and let me know the URL so I can get you hooked up. Thanks!
Thanks!
I created a site on WordPress.com at:
catalyst2015.wordpress.com
Let me know how to proceed.
Hi akseo – I just sent you an email with instructions. Just reply to that if you have any questions. Thanks!
