Laying child pages over each other.

Looking at your website you probably actually mean the sub menu items, not the child pages (which is a different thing in WordPress and there is actually a “List child pages” pate template in the theme).

Anyway, the issue is actually related to default HTML stacking in browser. Any element on the website is above the previous one. That applies also on menu items. You can override this with custom CSS though:

.main-navigation-container li:hover,
.main-navigation-container li.focus {
	z-index: 100;
}
