Can you elaborate on how to achieve what you describe below:

The block has a transparent background so it can be layered on top of any container block, like groups or background images to achieve different effects.

Hi there! It means that you can add a Cover block to a post, select an image for it, and then add a Sketch block inside the Cover block.

Thus, yoou end up with a Sketch drawing showing over the image you’ve chosen for the Sketch Block.

Here’s an example video showing it (around 0:31 of the video):

Excellent, thank you, that explained perfectly and all clear – I managed to get it to work. I’ve tested further and written a short write up if interested, here it is: https://innerventur.es/2021/07/13/new-sketch-block-for-wordpress/

Hoping you take this further and looking forward to it ??

    Great! Nice write-up!

I cannot draw on my iPad or iPhone where I do most of my drawing because the block doesn’t work there. Good thing I have a touch screen on my PC or I would be screwed

Interested in this from your post. Would you be kind to provide a few answers? It should work there on those devices. What’s the symptom you’re seeing? Were you using Safari or other browsers?

Another issue I cannot seem to resolve is that when in edit mode the canvas fits into the page all fine but when published, it gets cut off on the right and the alignment option for the block doesn’t solve it.

Will try to get this fixed, thanks for checking it out!

@oskosk on the first point, I was using the WordPress App and the Sketch block is simply not one I can select from. Maybe I’m missing something. I do imagine it would work in a browser so could try that but I do try and work in the Apps on my iPad and iPhone – that way maybe the Apple Pencil would work too?

Thanks for looking at the alignment issue and any way you will be looking at the undo and redo function I mentioned too?

Oh indeed. Currently the WordPress App offers a specific set of blocks from the ones provided by WordPress (core). So plugin blocks are definitely not shown there.

Indeed, working on mobile on a browser will allow you to interact with the sketch block via finger or Pencil.

Will definitely consider it further, and have been. Currently the block is just relying on the underlying undo/redo provided by the editor which, as you saw, it’s not quite a step by step undo for any given block AFAIK. But of course in cases like this, drawing could benefit much from a custom implementation of an undo/redo by the block itself

Thank you, I’ll give the browser a try for when I want to sketch ??

And undo/redo within the block itself would be perfect, I was using the editor function.

Great work and looking forward to seeing this progress.
