• Hi there-

Earlier today I was prompted to update my WordPress site to 4.3; I accepted the update and then my site turned white. All of my urls (e.g. /wp-admin, as well as the public-facing pages) are just white.

I had my hosting service roll back to a prior version of the site after being unable to do it myself, and then stupidly thought I would make the update to 4.3. I’m on a different computer now, had just had a tech support person look at it, etc. You know how this story ends: My site went down and I’m back on hold with tech support to ask for the rollback.

Any idea why this is happening and what I should do? Am I just doomed to never update WP again?

  • You can change WP_DEBUG to true in wp-config.php file to see error

Thanks. Do you know how I access that? Normally I go into Bluehost to do it but it’s telling me I have no WordPress installation at all, so no files to be seen.

The problem is likely a bad plugin: I had to remove the “WP Ban” plugin in my case. Usually I try to debug these things by checking the PHP error log, but I have no idea if you’re able to do this on your hosting…

Ahh, I also use WP Ban. I wonder if that’s the culprit. The guy at Bluehost restoring the site is advising me to disable plugins before updating.
