• I was updating Woocommerce template files on my site because I received a notice that some were out of date. More often than not, when I go to the Woocommerce site to grab the latest version of a file, the version number in the supposed latest file on woocommerce.com does not match the latest version of Woocommerce.

For instance, the latest version of /emails/email-styles.php is 9.3 (according to the System Status screen). However, the same file from the Woocommerce repository has the version number listed as 8.6.0. This is the exact same version number that is listed in the file that is in place and supposedly outdated.

My question is twofold – first, why is this file being flagged as out of date when the supposed latest file version number matches what is currently in place on my server? Second, should I be updating the version in the file on my server to 9.3 (to match the what is listed as the latest version of the file), despite the fact that the latest file from Woocommerce has a version number of 8.6.0? It makes no sense that Woocommerce tells me the latest version of the file is 9.3, and that I need to update my files because of it, but the file in question has a version number of 8.6.0 (which is exactly the version that I already have in place).

I’ve noticed this issue for years, so any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello jbslettebak,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand you’re seeing a discrepancy between the WooCommerce template file versions on your server and the version numbers provided in the WooCommerce repository.

Could you share screenshots of both the System Status screen showing the “out of date” message and the version details of the file in question? This will help me compare with a test site and provide more accurate guidance.

Once I have more information, I will be in a better position to assist you further.

Looking forward to your response. ??

    Hi Zubair,

Thanks for your quick response. Can you tell me how I can send screenshots to you without needing to attach them from a URL? I’ve had issues in the past with hackers perusing these forums and targeting site URLs that they find, so I do not want to go that route. I’ve tried dragging and dropping images to the block editor here, but it is not working, and the only option for adding an image block is to insert from a URL.

Please let me know when you have a chance, and I’ll get the screenshots to you as soon as I can so you can see what I’m talking about.

    Thank you.

    Hi there!

Thank you for your message, and I completely understand your concerns about privacy.

To keep your site URL private, you can take a screenshot without including the URL bar in the image. Here are some apps that can help you capture and share screenshots securely, without including sensitive details:

    https://snipboard.io
    https://skitch.com/
    https://getcloudapp.com/
    https://awesomescreenshot.com/

Each of these tools provides options to capture specific areas of your screen, making it easy to exclude any identifying details. Once you’ve taken the screenshot, you can share the link generated by the app here.

    Thank you

Thank you very much for that information – I have three screenshots for you to view:

This screenshot shows the outdated template on the Woocommerce system status screen on my site. This screenshot shows the version number of the emails/email-styles.php file from the Woocommerce repository. Finally, this screenshot shows the version number of the emails/email-styles.php file that is in place on my server that is being flagged as out of date. You will see that the version number on the file on my server matches the version number of the same file within the Woocommerce repository.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any further information.

    Thank you.

    Hi there!

Thank you for sharing the screenshot of the issue. I see you’re seeing version 8.6.0 for email-style.php, while I checked the latest WooCommerce version on my computer, and email-style.php appears as version 9.3.0. You can confirm this in this screenshot: https://go.screenpal.com/watch/cZX2DmnVXHi. It seems the file you’re accessing might be from an older version of WooCommerce.

To update, I recommend downloading the latest version of WooCommerce using this link: https://woocommerce.com/download/.

Once downloaded, extract the plugin zip file into a new folder (separate from any older WooCommerce files). Then, locate the email-style.php file and check the version. If it shows the latest version, replace the old file on your server with this updated one.

Please remember to take a complete backup of your files before making any updates.

    Hope this helps!
