    Have discoved with my first upload of WP that my Hosting company, myserverworld which uses My SQL doesn’t have the latest version. Should i use an older version of WP then? It seems on reading WP that old versions are all unsafe and can be hacked. Or am i being too cautious?

    That is correct. It’s one of the downsides to using freely available, open source, software. I think you need to move to a better host.

    yes,it would appear its quite a big downside and i cannot be alone in using Myserverworld and experiencing this issue. It is a very large company. I also have a resellers account with quite a few webs on it so to move to another would be a big hassle now. I shall see what the company say about releasing latest version. In the meantime i’ll try out an older version of WP as i want to play with it!

    Hi
    Have emailed my support on Webfusion and they say they can move my website to another server that will support the latest version of MySQL. I shall see how it turns out..hasn’t happened yet. Have u installed it locally and is it a pain or simple. Hassle i don’t want more of at present!
    Thanks

    I’ve got multiple copies of WP installed locally and can set up a local web server in about 150-30mins – but then I’m a professional developer.

    Now they told me i cannot have the site migrated to a supporting server but need to upgrade my account…that sounds like more money!
    I’m not a professional developer so am not sure if its something i could do. i would need to look at the page you directed me to earlier.

    So, your current account only lets you host using outdated software? I say outdated because WordPress does not have bleeding edge requirements.

    * PHP 4.3 or greater
    * MySQL 4.1.2 or greater
    * The mod_rewrite Apache module

    (I believe that requirements are changing with WP 3.2 though.)

    PHP 4.3 has been out since about 2002 and MySQL 4.1.2 has been out since about 2004-2005. Its kind of odd that the server doesn’t support those. I’ve seen $10.00 per month hosts that do. Maybe it is the mod_rewrite part? Or something else entirely? Why exactly do they say you have to upgrade the account?

    They now say that i can move all my websites to another server that supports the latest versions. Basically i have been with them years and parked, so to speak, on an old steam driven server.
    I pay £350 (UK)a year for a resellers package. In the US its most probably cheaper.
    All of this Worpress stuff is new to me but I have a number of webs that i want to add Blogs to, or run as blogs.
    I shall see how it goes..thanks for your comments

    I would like to upgrade to WordPress 3.2. Your instructions say that it requires php 5.2.4 or greater, my server is a vps and the hosting company only offers php 5.1.6.

    Is it possible to run WordPress 3.2 under this older version of php or am I stuck with running 3.1.4?

    Thanks

    No it isn’t – sorry.
