  • Sorry about that.

I block Telstra Internet AU 58.160.0.0/12. It is a major source of spam for me.

I have delete the deny entry, but it wall automatically reappear when I get another attack or spam entry from that range.

    Please try again.

Thanks for quick update – I’m on (temporarily?). Telstra is the major ISP here.

Any hints and tips on how to avoid being treated as one of the spammers – other than continually rebooting the router until one gets assigned an ip address not in that range ?

    I found a list of ip’s here:

Oh, and using feedly to get read the rss feed at https://www.blogseye.com/feed/
just says “sorry no feed found”

whereas I could load it in IE (but then I almost never use IE)

Thank you for the list. I’m adding Telstra to the white list. Australia, unfortunately, is a major spam source, out of proportion to its population. I don’t want to block residential ISPs, but my code is automated to the point where a couple of spammers can block a whole range, sometimes totaling thousands of ip addresses. It is extreme, but I want to keep spammers out of my site.

Feedly is probably blocked because I blocked the range that it runs on. My code blocks spiders that don’t obey the rules. It also blocks Hosting comapanies that let spammers have free trials. Hosting companies that offer free trial periods are the source of much of my spam. Feedly is probably in one of those blocks. Blogseye.com is not really a blog and I don’t add posts or pages often. I don’t like RSS and I don’t encourage people to read my site this way. If you want a feed of what I am doing it is better to get it from here (WP).

    Hi Keith,
Thanks for updates and advice. I’m actually one of your book buyers and thought your blog feed would say if you put out new ones. I see maybe cthreepo.com but that also blocks feedly.

I appreciate that everyone has different styles of keeping up to date on things, however I thought I’d encourage you to think again about rss. Having a list of the sites that you want to stay up to date, knowing when there is an update without having to manually visit each site, having at least a title or an excerpt to help you decide whether it is worth going there to read the whole article – that’s why I like rss.
From a provider point of view I know there are the issues with content stealers but they do that anyway with screen scrapers. Email updates are fallible – spam filters etc. Facebook and twitter too unreliable/stuff gets lost in there … I wish everyone used a good feed reader!

Wow! You are one of dozen or so people who have bought the book. Thank you. I don’t plan on putting out another one, even though I have one (of my fantasy stories) that is mostly ready to go. There isn’t much of a return on book publishing.

I use RSS for a few things, but I am concerned with people using it on my sites, especially my harmonica sites where I actually make a little money off of the ads. I will see if I can white list feedly when I get a chance.

One problem might be that I am running experimental plugins that identify and block some kinds of access by updating the htaccess file with ip denies in real time. If a robot hits me with suspicious credentials, I block it. So if feedly is not sending proper headers, it will be blocked as soon as it hits the site.
